Hello folks. I have a 2013 TRD 4x4 with a Leer fiberglass camper top. I don't know the exact weight, but I do know it's heavy as hell and assume that it's 300+lb since it took three big men to place it on my truck.
Long story short, it sets the rear of the truck down a bit and bottoms out when I hit a considerable bump. The headlights, even on dim, are super bright and I get 'flashed' all the time. I can adjust the headlights without a problem. Is there anything I can do to beef up the rear suspension within a reasonable budget? And, if so, will it affect my warranty? Thanks in advance for the input.

get an AAL (add a leaf) for your rear leaf pack to bring your ass end up a bit.

Also, pose this question, especially the warranty part, in the 2ND GEN FORUM you will get more responses there.

this section is for 95.5-2004 trucks

How many leafs does your rear leaf pak have? Do you have 2 plus overload spring?
    or 3 plus overload spring?

Since you are still under warranty..... Call your Toyota dealer and complain. Seriously..... give it a try. You might get some help from Toyota if you complain hard enough.

And the reason I say that is.....the older tacomas (mine is 2007) had only 2 leafs plus overload. Known to sag under any small amount of weight. There was a TSB for a new set of leaf springs with 3 leafs plus overload. If you were still under warranty and complained - you could get the better leaf pak installed for free. I have the TSB springs (3 leafs plus overload).

A truck should not sag with only 300lbs in it. If you want...take your truck to the dealer and let them see how LAME the suspension is!!

I put on a wheelers 3 leaf HD add a leaf and now I can carry 500 lbs and not even notice. I kept my overload spring so I got over 2" of list and you will need longer shocks.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Any good truck spring shop can re-arch and add a leaf for around $350. Sorry, I see now its a new truck. Go back to the dealer.

Just as an adder to your comment.....

I had my leafs re-arched on my 96 (this was probably 10 years ago). I had all the leafs re-arched and I had them produce an extra leaf with the same arch (for support). Generally, re-arching only - will sag over time. But adding that additional leaf and all the leafs were 'matched' with the same arch.....makes a huge difference.

I asked for 2" of lift and after it settled, I got 2" of lift (3" when first installed).

That rear suspension was HEAVY DUTY. It was stiff and I loved it. You could haul just about anything and it didn't budge. No more axle wrap or stop/go rear end bouncing.

Thanks guys. I talked to the folks at the dealership - to no avail. Looks like a TRD Off Road model would have a little more beef under there than the other models. Guess not. I appreciate the comments and will let you know what transpires. Thanks again.

Toyota leafs have never been know for towing or hauling big loads. If your gonna do it a lot id call Alcan and get a custom set made for your needs.

be warned..the purchase of said mods..is the start of the mod Bug..once you start..your doomed to spend to much time on this site and more money then your proud of to make your truck a beast....worth..it.
