    Just getting started
I just bought a 2014 4 door, short bed. I need some help or recommendations on a three fold 'Hard' tonneau cover. A couple of guys said to go with Extang (not sure the model or part#). The Toyota dealer was trying to sell me a 'Rugged' brand cover. What are you guys running and why? Price? - - Thanks

I like the bakflip. It solid so you can lock stuff inside and it sits low so it looks nice

Has to be a hard cover? I got this one for my 2013 shipped for $286 out the door:
    http://www.autoanything.com/tonneau-covers/60A2044A0A0.aspx

It rolls up so if you haul something, it gets out of the way and takes up very little space. It cannot be opened without releasing 2 levers from inside the bed, so assuming no one uses a knife, your stuff is safe.

I bought an Extang Solid Fold for my '09 Access 6' bed when they first came out. It was a total POS. The seals were poorly cut and it leaked like a sieve. The black paint chipped very easily exposing shiny aluminum. The hold down springs were impossible for my wife to lock down and not that easy for me. Plus locking down the cover does not secure the tailgate.

A bud bought one last year and was told by the dealer that they have been improved but I would check it out before you plunk down $700.

I was about to throw mine in the trash but got $200 for it on Craigs list. I replaced it with an Undercover SE which is a one piece solid lid. It is the same weight as the Solid Fold and removes very easily if needed and comes with wall hanging brackets. It also has an LED light and has a single lever lock which also secures the tailgate.

I bought a Retrax One hard rolling tonneau cover for my 13 double cab short bed Tacoma and I am so please with the purchase. It is so convenient leaving items in the bed and not worrying about theft or weather damage. My next step is to install a locking system to the tailgate... not sure how to deal with the back up cam.. Here's a link to the Retrax tonneau covers. Hopes this helps.

Take a look at a Pop and Lock. I installed one on my '09 when they first came out with them for the gen II tacos. If the '13 is still like the '09 it is a 20 minute job. It is a replacement handle with a key lock which incorporates the cam at a different location in the handle. You just remove the panel off of the inside of the tailgate, remove the clips, change out the handle, plug the cam back in the handle and put the cover back on.

When I did mine there was a detailed picture posting on how to do this on this forum.

I like the concept of the Bakflip, but I've been through 2 of them already in 6 years. They don't hold up over time, plus their Customer Service is lacking to say the least unless you manage to get a hold of the owner Julian. I'm looking at replacing my Bakflip G2 it with the Undercover Flex.

Just a tip, unfold your bed cover before you install it. You might accidentally not connect your latch/rods to the pop and lock to release the tailgate or it just somehow unclip in the process.

My experience...i just wanted to make sure the pop and lock was aligned and flush so I closed the tailgate without connecting the releasing mechanism for the tailgate. I didnt put the metal plate back on so i was able to lift up the Bed cover enough to reach down and release the tailgate.

I've got the Undercover Flex, chose it over the bakflip based on multiple complaints about customer service at Bak...

Bakflip Fibermax here. Paired with the popnlock, gives you nice added security. Only downside I found was the unfinished ends near the tailgate.

I got the BakFlip F1. It will hold 500 pounds. That means no problem for the snow weight at Lake Tahoe when I dont feel like brushing off the snow. I can also stand on it with no damage and it doesn't leak.

Another vote for the Bakflip. Low profile and no loss of bedspace for hauling.
