Hey guys, I finally got around to buying my interior lights. The stock ones suck. First I started with the dome light. I went through a few Sylvania LED wedge bulbs and they have worse output than the stock dome bulb.

So I grabbed the 168/194/2825 that I had in my previous car (These are the only ones that I have found that have good light output.

They worked great! for the map lights.

Then for the dome light I grabbed an Alpena dome light kit with 12 leds. I didn't know they came with the adapters or I would have bought one long ago. The kit comes with an adapter for wedge style bulbs (spring loaded to fit various sizes), a 194 style and another style. So the 12 led square plugs into the adapter which goes right in the OEM bulb spot.

I got these because I work at a parts store and can swap them if they ever go out. I hate buying things online because you can't see how bright they are before you buy. I tried a couple other LED variants we have at the store and the output was horrible. Sylvania all the way, well the 168/194/2825 style anyway. The rest suck!

    Here are some output pictures

    Dome only

So Sylvania LED 168/194/2825s in the map lights. Alpena Dome Litz 12 LED in the dome. (They also have a 20led version)

Next up, license plate lights to match the pure white HIDs

Your post is somewhat confusing, you jump from 1 topic (dome lite) to another, than back to dome lites...?

I hate having to re-read something a second (or third) time because the poster didn't proof-read there post & have it make sense.

Pretty sure the post makes perfect sense. I changed the dome light and 2 map light bulbs.

I was saying I tried out the wedge style sylvanias for the dome light and none of them were bright (I went with the alpena led dome light). The only sylvania leds that actually put out good light are the 168/194/2825 style. These went in the map lights. Huge improvement over stock.

If you need a map let me know

I would like to see how they compare in brightness, I spend a few bucks more but it's basically name brand with a 1 year warranty vs a 30 day defect only warranty.

    Peace of mind and bright!

    LOL

I didn't find a problem with my post except for I typed grapped instead of grabbed lol. I went back to fix it after posting it but must of looked at the wrong one because it was spelled correctly. Thought I was going crazy, but just realized I mispelled it the first time I said it.

Very bright, almost too bright in the map lights...but not over powering.

And the color temp between the map and dome match perfectly. Yours look a tad different in the pics.

Chris has a lot of happy customers here too

They look the same in person, just how the camera took it. These are very bright too. Map lights light up the floor and console pockets too.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with his kits or anything I just like warranties, I got a discount on them for working there and I had them the second I wanted them and didn't have to wait for shipping.

The only thing I don't like are colors in the dome lights. Having a dim lit red or blue truck seems silly.

I was basically just giving a review of some good lights everyone can probably find locally if they have an auto parts store. Like I said I hate buying lights offline because you don't know how bright they are. This was to show everyone how the Alpena and Sylvania LEDs are.

I don't post much but for some reason that dude commenting on OP's post the way he did pissed me off. Even if he did/didn't repeat his information we don't need to bash.

$38 seems kind of steep considering you can get similar led bulbs on eBay for $15.

Similar yes, but like I said I tried out multiple Sylvania LEDs before even finding one with output better than the OEM bulbs. So yes you can order them cheaper, but when they are dim as can be and your warranty is for defects only you're now out that money.

I wrote this to show people ones that ARE bright so nobody has to take a chance when purchasing these.

You can get the dome light for $12.99 shipped
You can get the map lights for $11.93 x 2

    Both on Ebay.

I've bought quite a few different LED bulbs offline and all of them I was disappointed in. Like I said you can't try them before you buy but these ones are bright for sure!

I did Putco 168/192 Wedge bulbs in the map and license plate lights. Then I did a 1.50" festoon tube bulb for the dome light. I did those over 2 years ago. I spent way more than $38.00.

Gotta love how technology goes down in price.

The alpena dome litz thing was cool. Came with pre-wired pigtails for festoon, wedge and screw in bulbs and that adapter just connected to the plug on the dome light. Neat idea!

Well at the time LED bulbs were hard to find. For some reason even finding them for a my new at the time 11' Tacoma was difficult. All that mine were was a swap, no playing with wires needed. I am sure that now everything is plug & play.

Don't mean to crap on your thread op, but I had the same dome light. 1 by 1, the LED's started to go out. I forget where I got my current one(maybe someone on TW), but it hasn't failed me yet.

We didn't carry them at Advance auto until a few years ago, nobody bought them. Discontinued them and now a few years later we carry them again.

    Still nobody buys them
