Hey all, newb Tacoma owner here. Bought a 99 ext cab 4x4 this weekend and I need to fix the horn to pass inspection. Mechanic told me its the horn assembly and said it would be $150 for the part, $150 for labor...so I found it online for $61 and now need to put the bad boy in myself.

I haven't had any luck finding a thread on replacing stock horns(although it seems like i will be underwhelmed by the sound). Does anyone have any help for me? I found tidbits of info about disconnecting the battery and avoiding yellow wires since they attach to the airbag, but am somewhat at a loss at where to begin. Anything helps and is much appreciated!

Remove the grille. There are 7 or so tabs/clips holding it on. You'll see the horn mounted on the core support on the passenger side.

Unclip the wire harness going into the horn, unbolt the horn from the core support, swap in new one, insert wire harness into new one, put grille back on.

    That's the gist of it.

You should seriously consider replacing it with something less feminine.

I'm embarrassed to use my horn. Its a feeble "meep meep" noise...

Reminds me of the video a poster here made for his horn replacement thread.

Thanks for all the help! As soon as the assembly gets here I will try the install. Hopefully I didn't order a roadrunner horn...:-/

Thinking the "General Lee" horns or a train horn mounted in the spare tire location with a compressor and reservoir tanks.
