I wouldn't worry about the miles much if it was taken care of I bought mine with 170ish and it's been off-roaded for the most part since. I'm not easy on it but I maintain it, I figured I'd need a tranny by now but it hasn't skipped a beat.

Only thing I've replaced is MAF, 4wd actuator and serpentine belt. Oh and I've busted a few cv's but those don't count lol. I had a tranny light come on one time but I was workin it very hard in deep snow for an extended period of time. The previous owner was very good on maintenance. I change oil every 3-3500 and I only use high quality high mileage stuff. I haven't touched the tranny since I bought it but I plan to have it flushed ASAP

I got lucky the P.O. seems to have taken really good care of my truck as well. I changed my diff oil last weekend half expecting it to be black but thankfully he had gotten it changed recently. Really gives me some peace of mind knowing he took care of it. Only issue I have had is the AC leaks.

As for the frame I meant rust more than making sure it's straight. Some people have had rust issues with their trucks so I would check that out too.

Toyotas can be a bit of a double edged sword...they have that reliability reputation you know, so some people buy them and do nothing to them. My parents bought a Camry, brand new, in 1990. They ran that thing for 12 years in a harsh northern Ontario climate. I can count the number of oil changes on one hand and have fingers left over, they replaced the rear struts and brake pads. Was it realiable? Hell yeah. Would I want to buy it? Hell no lol.

But, given even half assed reasonable maintenance they will endure. Your truck looks to have been taken care of...very few people will take care of the interior if they don't take care of the mechanical, but I've seen many let the interior go to hell and have an an impecably maintained mechanical.

Congrats on the new to you truck!

Perhaps you should start a thread to explain your process to the rest of us...

As you have heard from others, if the frame is rust free and there is an indication of regular oil changes, you should not have a problem. I would buy it if you have positive information on rust and oil changes.

This thread summarizes all of the repairs on my truck to 300k miles:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/244798-300-000-miles-today.html

I will soon be posting another thread to update my experience to 350k miles.

Toyota makes good vehicles I just sold my 96 4runner with 460000 km with no rust no major mechanical issues been service at dealer for most of its life before I bought it . If you can get service history from dealer bonus , if I can get half the mileage on new Tacoma I will be happy.

Exactly, and many times still sell them for a premium at the end because it is a Toyota..

x2 for a separate thread for the 452k beast.

Thank you very much, the interior is near flawless on the new truck and the only minor things that have happened is that the drivers seat had a small hole where it would rub against the adjuster on the left side and one light on the temperature controls goes out once in a while and with a good tap will come back on. I'll be taking a look at that once I get the iPod hook up installed.

I'll be taking a look at your thread to hopefully follow in some of your steps.

I won't make a separate thread for the Beast but I will post a few photos and of the receipts I had for it. I originally bought it at 405k three years ago for my first vehicle. I purchased it from the company salesman I worked for, the truck has seen enormous amounts of miles from the northeast, and with regular maintenance it was near perfect when I bought it. The interior was well taken care of and I followed suit. The only thing that was worn out when I sold it was that the drivers side seat belt was starting to fray where it rubbed.

As for mechanically when I had it for three years I replaced U-joints, brake caliper, carrier bearing, coil packs (rubber boots dry rotted), O2 sensor, water temp sensor, spark plugs, belts, and fuel pump.

When I asked the P.O. what he did to take care of it he said he went for regular check-up and replaced anything that it needed. As for the magic oil that he ran in it, he didn't. He said every 3,000 miles he would buy what ever oil was on sale and change it. It was the original transmission and original motor when I sold it, no problems starting and ran great.

Here are a few pictures after it reached that mileage.
