I'm annoyed with my "free maintenance" after buying my '13. I figured they would do more than oil change and rotate tires...they told me my cabin air filter and other air filter need to be changed and wanted to charge me 75 bucks for one and 25 for the other! I said, "I thought the free maintenance covered anything that needs replacing" and they said no- just oil change and tire rotation. I thought they were supposed to check everything...

    Yup.

Cabin filter, air filter, and fluids are "inspect" items under the 3/36 period and not warranty or "covered" items.

And your air filter and cabin filter both should be under $35 (plus shipping):

I do everything except tires, AC, alignments, and machine work (boring blocks, resurfacing headss, etc). It's not worth the tool cost to do it myself.

I also have a 2013 and got the first Toyotacare oil change a few months ago but I really would rather just do it myself

has anyone gone to the dealership and just ask to just take the oil and filter home and do it yourself instead? is that possible?

Toyotacare still going on my 2012 so I bring them Mobil 1 and let them do the change. Got an appointment tomorrow morning.

What's the interval for recommended cabin filter change? Edit Per the manual - R&R @ 20,000 or 24 months.

Side note: funny that the manual says 'Check installation of driver's floor mat' as the first item for every service interval. They always take my Toyota mat off of my weathertechs and put it in the back. I wonder how long this will go on? I hate the Prius.
