I thought I read before te swapped to the 4.6 they got the 4.7 up to 280hp but regardless same point made. much more economical upgrades out there. not to mention fuel mileage loss by v8

LOL. There are many mods that do very little, but it has been proven that these work. I'm the first one to tell you that it is not worth modding a 3vze and there is no such thing as a "190hp" 3vze which many people claim (with their excel dyno charts). You'd be hard pressed to go from 150 to 165hp on those motors.

However the 1gr is a proper platform for modding and it has been proven by independent people (like the ones i posted) to produce results. But of course, in your eyes, they are all salesmen, cheats and liars

Gadget @URD is a very reputable seller and i trust his power claims. K&n, afe, thorley, not so much. Gadget has always stayed credible throughout his 15+ years of modding toyotas. If you take your tinfoil hat off you may notice that not all companies are trying to brainwash you and are telling the truth...

Had one in my 07 rubicon JK loved it! I have been thinking about putting one in my 2012 DC but there is no listing for a 2012? I see you have a 13 and just wondering if you have one in yours. If so (if yours is an auto, mine is) do you have the sprint booster part number that you used for your truck? I tried sprint booster when I first bought my truck they said to take a picture of the plug on the harness that connected to the acc. pedal and email it to them. Never got an answer. Also did it come with the controller? Thanks in advance for any information you can pass along.

It's all about how fast you can cycle through the gears. Adding a trd short shift will help and will also prevent any pencil necks from engaging reverse w/ out using 2 hands!

Takeoff torque/speed? Buy a Tesla. Swear to God, there is nothing with four wheels that accelerates like that car does.

Thanx again for all of your responses. I had to order my truck since I wanted a manual (don't really have those kind on the dealership lots). I've only had it a month and I really like it - its a big change from the Corolla that I had before!

The only thing that I don't like about it so far is that as soon as I put it in first then I have to put it in second gear. It is not really as fast at first...but it seems to do well after the first 15 mph. Of course the gears may act different after it gets broken in and I'm trying not to put it under too much stress right now (since it only had 5 miles on it when I got it).

Now its on to (1) a bed cover and (2) body armor

After having it for 6 months, I've only managed to put about 4,000 miles on it - I work/play close to home.

I've had the tri-fold undercover for about 4 weeks now. Looks great. Not as water tight as I would like, but as water tight as I expected. I'll fix that with some silicone, door seal/rubber moldings. I should be able to drive a lag bolt through the top so I can add a bolt underneath the cover for added security. Then all I have to do is open the locked tailgate and slide the bolt over to open the bed cover when needed.

I've contacted my dealer about a supercharger. I've got a list of other things that I'm going to throw his way and see what I can get by with:
    1. Y pipe
    2. Dual exhaust or cat-back exhaust
    3. short vs long tube headers
    4. intake/Cold Air Intake
    5. cams/gears
    6. URD MAF Calibrator
    7. Boost and AFR gauges
    8. TRD Performance Air filter vs AFE Filter
    9. Blower
    10. TRD muffler
    11. Forced Induction (FI)
    12. Superchip
    13. Retune ECU
    14. TRD Short shift

Just thinking out loud, is the reason the Tacoma never gained the dual VVTI V6 from the 4R & FJ, because the 2nd gen effectively debuted during the 1st gen Tundra era? I could see Toyota not wanting a more powerful or equally powerful 1GR as the 2UZ in the Tundra of that time.

    Makes sense now.

just a thought... if ur looking for power and ur no longer under warrenty (i cant remember what year ur truck is and if its a 10 or newer this is moot) URD has a kit for the 4.0 that comes with everything u will need i.e. s/c piping IC injectors and ucon tuning (i think thats the brand) for around $5500 and u can put down some much better numbers, up high anyway.

I'd say FI and/or lower gearing would be your main options. What exactly are you trying to accomplish in the end?

Thanx yota, I've heard that URD parts can add some more hp than TRD. My truck is a 2014 so is still under warranty. So I'm gonna be sticking to the TRD for now.

What I'm trying to accomplish is to get as much hp as I can for a reasonable price. Also I would still like the truck to be a truck...just a fast truck =) When I say reasonable, I'm looking at around 20% of the vehicle going towards performance. The truck was about $31,000...so around $6000 for performance.

I will need to do some kind of balancing act between money and performance. I mean I wouldn't pay $500 for something that would only net me about 1 hp for example.

I hear that once I get a supercharger I'll be stuck buying premium instead of regular unleaded gas. That's an extra $.20/gallon. I run through about 20 gallons per week. That's about (.20 * 20 * 52) $208 more a year. Over 10 years I'm looking at about $2000 added for performance =(

Gas is so intangible...lets not account for that =)

well u could run e 85 which is considerably cheaper than regular, but u usually take a 35% or so hit on mpgs, but as opposed to running premium u come out a good bit ahead and ~105 octane
