I installed new shoes and drums on the rear of my 95 Tacoma and then it started. Stomp on the brakes and the truck chatters like she is going to self destruct. I can feather the brake and keep it from being to bad, but it is there.

I have removed the drums and cleaned both sides really well with brake cleaner and have adjusted the shoes to where they are just barely touching the drums.

Any insight on what could be causing the chatter? Its really starting to piss me off.

Did you adjust them after the install?

Sounds like they need to be adjusted properly to me. Just putting the shoes barely off of the drum is not a proper adjustment. Make sure the shoes arent on upside down either.

Yes, I adjusted the shoes out until the barely made contact with the drum. Is that correct? I've done lots of brake shoes before and have never had a problem like this.

Thanks for the video, I'll try and adjust them down a little bit more. I am pretty sure they are not on upside down as the spring connections and adjuster slots would not line up if that was the case.

They can be if both the front and rear shoe are on upside down then they will allow for the springs to attach

I can see that. But I was very careful with matching the old with the new not to get them mixed up. this afternoon, I'm going to adjust them...again....

Any chance that the new drums or shoes are the wrong size (diameter) ?
Compare them side-by-side to the old ones.
