I tried doing a search in the forums, but couldn't come up with anything.. i think i saw 1st gen taco on here with LED reverse lights but couldn't seem to find it. I was wondering if you did this mod, where would be a reputable place to get the LEDs from? and could it be any 921, 1156, and 1157 LED bulbs? oh yeah and would i just have to remove the screws and pull off the plastic to put them in? thanks in advance.

im assuming that your going with LEDs to get more light when you are reversing? if go the LED route, a LED is a directed beam opposed to the regular lights that are halogen and reflect off of the back housing. your best bet is to mount some harbor freight lights on the rear bumper, and tie them into your reverse lights..... best $20 spent!

Exactly what I did. And I used the el-cheapo Harbor Freight 55W plastic rectangular lights because I know eventually I'll bust them off, and didn't wanna toss a couple hundred bucks in the trash.

55W x 2 lamps = 110W or about 9 amps, figured it was a little more than stock wiring could safely handle so I relayed 12V right off the battery to them, relay coil tripped off the factory reverse lights.

you can kinda see them in this pic: [IMG]

Just for looks? So you'd rather not see where you're going when going in reverse... OK.

Hahahahahaha.... no, not all of them. Many consumer grade LED replacement "bulbs" are NOT brighter than regular automotive bulbs. These consumer LEDs aren't even close to those you now see on Caddys, Lexus etc.

I've never been good with wiring stuff, do you have a wiring diagram on how to do this with a relay? I'd love to do this mod so my reverse lights come on with my 2 35-watt utility lights I have mounted under my rear bumper. The problem is when I hooked them up directly to the reverse lights, my check engine light came on. I would also like to hook up an on-off-on switch so I can turn on my utillity lights when ever I want to, without having to put it in reverse. Thanks.

Anybody tried the led bulb kits for reverse and tag lights that you can get on Amazon.com?

Not sure how well they'd work for $15-$30
