hey, I did some research and there was a few talks about people doing this, but I never really got the answers I was looking for. I'm in need of hooking up a push button start in my 02 taco bc my ignition broke and I have to start m truck with a screwdriver. I don't mind but when im wheeling the screw driver always ends up on the floor or in the back seat or whatever.

I was wondering if anyone did this to one of these trucks and exactly how? I would like to hook my power "on" to a switch but I ould like to keep my "acc" position also. is there a way I can hook up to a 3 position switch? or even 2 separate switches? then have my "start" on a momentary button or switch? and advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

btw, my truck has a rebuilt title so the frame was soft, but I fixed it up then I rolled it onto its roof ...twice, that's the reason I don't want to get a new ignition switch for it

Not sure on exact amp draws for relays.

But you need a switch for accessory on. This will be on when engine is running, or with engine off but aux power still on.

A momentary button for push start. Switch must be on to actually start engine. Button only cranks it.

What about a different ignition. Say from an old vw or Chevy or something comparably cheap

thanks again, im not sure about an ignition out of something else, didn't really look into that too much.

right now I have the ignition out, and just have the back plastic part I turn with the screw driver, and all my ignition wires are right there, I was thinking getting a voltage regulator and finding out which wire did what, then splice into them and run the wires to the switches. that way I couldn't actually have to cut that plastic part, with my harness out of the truck.

im also wondering if I run 2 separate switches, 1 for acc, and one for on, to have the truck running would they both have to be on or not? I suppose I'll answer that when I go with my volt reg. or test light

    thanks again for the input

Old forum yes I know but what about doing possible aircraft switches for the ignition? One you flip up for acc, then the other you flip up to start the truck, it stays up then when you turn it off you simply push it back down?

Go to a junk yard and take a push button switch out of a newer car.

Or am I the only one thinking that those would be sweet to have to turn the truck on and off?

That’s what these guys did. Not sure if they do it in this video though.

Cool, mine did look similar but I fixed it and daily drove it for almost 2 years. I fixed it like those guys, hammers and a 3 ton floor jack to push the roof up lol. In the video it shows him cutting off a small white part of the ignition, that’s the back of it. In that piece there is a slot that can be turned with a screwdriver since all the keywats and locks and removed with the ignition cylinder. Also for the steering lock I just reefed on the wheel until the lock broke, good as new! I’m watching the series on that truck now, they turned that into quite the rig.
