    Hello guys,

Just picked up an '06 Taco a couple of months ago and just from being a new TW member and reading the posts, I started planning some upgrades! I am a first time owner and have already caught the mod bug! I do need your expertise and experience. I have found wheels I like and was wondering if anyone is using these . . .

I was reading about backspacing and offset here and I'm still not certain I'm figuring right.

I have an '06 Taco TRD Offroad DC 2x4 with 16" underneath. I never and will never go off road. I just bought the Toytec 3" front spacers and the Toytec rear AAL's, and have plans to purchase the 5100s in a few months.

That being said, this is what I'm looking at . . .

17x8 or 17x9 Ultra Crusher 195s (Pictured above) with Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/70-17s or 285/70-17s for the shoes.

The 17x8s are available in 2 diff specs:

    Bolt Pattern: 6x139.7mm (6x5.5")
    Backspace : 4.5
    Offset: +1mm

    Bolt Pattern: 6x139.7mm (6x5.5")
    Backspace : 4.875
    Offset: +10mm

And the 17x9s are available in:

    Bolt Pattern: 6x139.7mm (6x5.5")
    Backspace : 4.5
    Offset: -12mm

By looking at these specs, and my new lift of 3", could someone help me with what combination of wheel / tire would work best? I must keep in mind that in PA, tires shouldn't extend past the fender too much.

Thanks for all the experienced info that you guys have been providing. It really helps!

If I remember correctly, you want a negative offset.
If I also remember correctly, 285s will require cutting somewhere.
There's tons of information on here. Your best bet would be to start reading some stickys under wheels and tires. Also check under the suspension section too. The search button will answer all

Those are some bad ass looking rims. I was debating those and the fuels. I went with the fuels for the deep lip look

As said above, you will want the negative offset wheel. This will make your wheels stick out a little further, which could help with having bigger tires. I'm no pro, but I do know that I bought the same size wheels with -12mm offset and a set of 285/70r17's and all I had to do was take off the little mud flaps in the front.

Just to put it out there... Stock TRD wheels have a +30mm offset.

So that means the +10mm offset wheel will be "pushed-out" 20mm away from the suspension (or "stick-out", however you want to look at it).

And the -12mm offset will "stick-out" 42mm (1.65") further than stock. Too far IMHO...

Myself, I'm going with a +10mm offset wheel... Plenty of clearance between the suspension & wheel, but won't stick-out as much or throw copious amounts of mud/rocks/etc onto the side of my truck.

I'm very picky about wheels, but I really like these. If the shoe fits, wear that shit.

Clean rim. I'm not thrilled with the available offsets/widths available, however. There's a lot to cover here, but I'll try to be concise.

17X8, +10, 265/70r17: Tire will bulge very little around the rim; slightly more stretched look than stock. Rim will be inset far more than most aftermarket rims. Face of wheel will sit just about flush with fender, possibly inset. High probability that wheel/tire combo will fit without any trimming.

17X8, +1, 265/70r17: Tire will bulge very little around the rim; slightly more stretched look than stock. Rim will be inset more than most aftermarket rims. Face of wheel will sit slightly out from wheel.

17X9, -12, 285/70r17: Tire will bulge very little around the rim, slightly more stretched look than stock. VERY aggressive fitment. Wheels will be outset from fender, very wide stance. Front flaps (both in front and behind wheel) will have to be removed, additional cutting may be required.

I just ordered the 18x8.5 +10 Crushers with 265/70-18's which shipped today. I may have them Friday dependant on weather related delays with UPS. I will post pics when I get them on the truck.

Ok, so if I want this to work, I should use the 17x8 +10 with the 265/70-17 which sounds about perfect and then use a spacer to achieve a little wider stance?

So the more negative offset, the deaper the center of the wheel sits back from the outside edge? Giving it a "deep dish" appearance. The more negative offset the lesser the backspace? Is this right? Also, if both the 265/70-16 and 265/70-17 have the same tread width of 10.43 in. and the diameter of the wheel and tire are both increased by an inch, wouldn't they both look proportionally the same?

I just dont want any part of the wheel sticking out further than the outside face of the tire. If that makes sense . . .

I like those wheels. I am getting some 265/70/17 Michelins from a friend and I am going to sell one set of my wheels (either my trd 17"s or my boss 20" s) so I can get some wheels for offroading.i have been looking at pro comps and fuels but ultras seem to be a little less expensive. .how much are you going to pay for them?

UPS is still saying Friday. I will get them mounted Friday night and post some pics. i will get some daylight pics Saturday and post.

I ordered a different set of tires/wheels and had to send them back due to at least one out of round tire. They were 18x9 0 offset with 275/65, these stuck out past the flare about 3/4 to 1 inch. I am hoping the 18 x 8.5 10 offset keeps them tucked in even with the flare. I really do not want rocks and debris flung down the side of the truck.

I paid $152 each for the 18 x 8.5 from tire rack. I think you can find them a little cheaper but as I was getting tires too tirerack worked out to be the best for me.

Wheels and tires came in today. I like them, different then what I see commonly running around here. Some quick pics with cell phone. I will get them mounted tomorrow and break out the real camera.

Great looking setup, especially if you're looking to keep your stance "ideal".
