I have a 2014 Double Cab 4x4. While I was wiring up my bed lights, I robbed power from the park light wire. When I pulled the tail light out, I noticed all the bulbs were just standard bulbs. I thought they were LED's. Did Toyota make these to LOOK like LED's or am I missing something? Funny thing is the owners manual, in one place says they are LED bulbs, but on the spec page it says they are just normal light bulbs. I'm confused....

I thought only the running/brake lights (red) are LED. The turn signal and backup are bulbs?

    The manual says
    Rear turn signal lights-3157A*1
    Stop/Tail and rear side marker lights-3157KX *2

    *1: if equipped
    *2: bulb type only

The only thing I can assume is that "*1: if equipped" means that if you have the the old style tail lights, then they are standard bulbs, but if you have the new style, then the running/brake lights are LED.

These are the lights that I have. If you try to look up a replacement bulb from O'reilly's for either stop or tail, it calls for a 3157 wedge base bulb.

The round section in the middle is LED the rest are regular bulbs. If you take one off and pull the plug out of the middle it will be obvious.

Thanks. The manual isn't very clear on it, made me second guess myself.

Only the parking/brake lights are LED. Turn signals and reverse lights are standard halogen bulbs.

The side marker light is a single LED as well. I ripped mine open from my '12 just out of curiosity to see what was what inside.

I had to replace my whole lense because I discovered some jackoff at Home Depot cracked it with probably a cart of lumber.
I walked to my truck and saw the clear plastic on the ground.... at the least, I'm glad they didn't hit the sheet metal, I would've been super pissed.

Why not remove the bulb that needs replaced to grab the number off the actual bulb?

base model taco (2wd reg cab) is likely still all bulbs. They probably left the spec in the manual to cover this model too.
