Any idea where this oil might be coming from? Is there a gasket or something around this area that commonly leaks and that I should replace? The attached pictures show the area around the bottom idler pulley.

I'm hoping it is from when I spilled some oil doing an oil change but I don't remember spilling any oil the last 3-4 oil changes... perhaps before that.

V6? im thinking, small picture but on a V6 its may be the front cover, rare but we do them once in a while, not a fun day for sure but better a Tacoma than a Tundra

    Yes, V6.

What is involved with replacing the "front cover"? I'm not familiar and didn't know there was a front cover. This is different than the engine oil pan, right?

The oil appears to be sitting right of the crank shaft. I wiped it down and I'll check in a week or so to see if any new oil accumulates.

My '09 was back at the dealership some time ago for a warranty replacement of the crankshaft pulley and associated oil seal. The invoice described a poor-fitting pulley.

    Here's my follow-up from before: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/204473-need-tacomaworlds-help-please-2.html

That might not be your problem, but it's something to consider...

I took a closer look. I'm pretty sure it's just oil that I spilled when changing out the oil filter previously. It's directly beneath that rubber cap which holds the oil in the oil filter housing. I didn't see any signs of new oil since I wiped it down last either.

I'm glad it wasn't anything serious!
