People do silly things all the time. It's a seatbelt recall for crying out loud and no reason to not get this done once released.

My dealership used to have free doughnuts and coffee... until they decided to move and build new. Now they have a #@*%! "coffee bar" and charge for everything.

I had called a couple of weeks or so back when this new recall was released and got verification for MY vehicle. I tried to make an appt and he laughed and told me that I had to wait, dangit.

    BUT

When I bought my truck, I asked about the pedal recall and any other campaigns that were on it. The dealer told me to wait for the notices. I told him that NO, I'm going to leave it there and I'll be back to take delivery of it once they are all done. :p

Scheduled service with my local dealership for "Toyota Recall D0L Seat Belt Assembly". I was the first person thru the service bay doors and it took 2 hours to complete the recall.

Does anyone know if door trim and/or panels have to be pulled to apply this permanent fix?

Yea, they pull the door trim to get to the seatbelt. Check the OP took about 2 hrs and I included the parts they replaced.

Just an fyi, I didn't wait to receive the official notice in the mail. I just scheduled an appointment and requested recall D0L.

Sorry, I know this thread is a couple days old, but here is what Toyota replaces:

    DSCN0021_zps27ad180e_af89024e1945aee602c38c06dcc4089586d10f13.jpg

The screws are the culprit, the new ones feature a threadlocker on the threads (the orange bit). If these screws come loose, the spring (on the right) isn't held in place properly, and comes apart, like this:

    DSCN0025_zpsfe2b6b0f_bed6c8a3af9c867b33e6ed09542b3a1d2d7b6d89.jpg

    Hope this is illuminating.

Not quite. The screws don't hold the spring in place. The spring cover has been redesigned with ribs to prevent the screws from backing out very far (i.e. provides redundancy in case the loctite fails). That's why the spring is replaced as part of the recall.

The work instructions are posted on NHTSA's recall web site:
    http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/jaxrs/download/doc/UCM449351/RCRIT-13V337-4819.pdf

The technical content starts on page 16 of the PDF. It's somewhat invasive, involves opening the seat belt retractor assy (i.e. more than what an assembly line worker would do to install seat belts). The technician has to completely unwind the seat belt from the reel, "time" the shaft to engage the new spring, then pull a grenade pin to release the spring tension.

Is there any way we could throw a few extra cranks into that darn spring assembly ?
Nothing worse than shutting the door on the belt .
Im carefull , but forget to remind passengers that the belts have a lazy return .
Understand that its a safety product and not to be messed with but damm , got no paint left on the bottom of the passenger door:eek:

Did you already get this done? My seatbelt retract doesn't take long at all, maybe getting the new assembly will solve it for you :notsure:
