I just read this article and I'm feeling a little uneasy about my seats,I hope they don't catch fire!!! This is my first Toyota, one of the reasons I bought my Tacoma, was Toyota reliability, now im not so sure! I can't believe they are fixing the cars/trucks that haven't been sold yet, but the ones that are sold can go scratch!!!! Thanks Toyota! Way to stand behind your product!!! http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2014/01/toyota-instructs-dealers-to-halt-sales-of-eight-models-due-to-fire-risk/ btw, the article says heated "fabric" seats.Does Toyota make a heated "fabric" seat? I have the softex.

Why are you giving me a link to a differential gearing thread?

There's lots of heated fabric seats out there. Sounds like my tacoma is effected by this. We'll see if Toyota makes an official thing on it

They aren't recalling cars/trucks that were already sold, only the ones on dealer lots or the factory that haven't been sold yet. So if you already own one now, your out of luck!!!! No recall!!

    Things I need to tow.
Just to clarify, heated fabric covered seats were/are offered on the Tacoma in the Canadian market, but not the US where all the heated seats are SofTex.

I have them too and I'm not the least bit worried about it. No fires have been reported and there's no indication it causes a problem. The question is if the material used is sufficiently flame retardant to meet legal requirements. Toyota is doing their due diligence in taking the steps to legally deal with it and I see no reason for alarm. If there is a recall and my truck is affected, I'll get the post card and have it dealt with.

I am just curious, and I know this is the 3rd or 4th thread on this same announcement, but how did you come to the conclusion that only vehicles on the lots are being fixed? To me it shows that Toyota is not going to sell these affected models until they are fixed before sale. It is a recall for crying out loud.

2013's and 2014's alike are affected.

Toyota is not fixing the new dealer stock, yet. They just can't legally sell them. Of course if you feel like your seats are going to catch on fire take it to the dealer, otherwise you'll get the notification in the mail as to when the remedy will be available. It takes time to develop a fix for a recall, it's not just the tacomas, it's almost the whole '13 '14lineup with seat heaters that will need it.

I don't know about this, as up here in Canada, the heated seats for the
2012 DCLB only came with the Leather seating.

I'm pretty sure that your seats will be fine, but if there is a problem, your model year will be covered by warranty. I'd contact your purchasing dealership, and ask them to contact you when they get the word.

Who knows, but in my opinion I think you'll be getting a couple of new seats out of it, free.

My 2013 has heated leather seats, however, I was able to get heated seats in cloth also.

It is unclear which material is the problem, or if it is the padding located under the top surface. In which case, affecting both the leather and cloth surfaces

You dudes sound like a pack of Histrionic Old Women.

    1. Automotive News reports that a South Korean supplier notified Toyota that the parts used in its seat heaters did not meet United States standards for flame retardation.

** This Korean Supplier I'm pretty sure was the manufacturer of the heaters for the seats.

    2. Vehicles on the above list with heated fabric seats built since August 2012 are at risk. NHTSA has yet to issue any findings or opinions on the matter.

** The only risk so far are that they were not tested as per US Standards. The NHTSA hasn't made any peep about this.

    3. “ The fabric in the seats is flame retardant, it is a matter of HOW flame retardant when tested. Per NHTSA regulations ".

** The fabric may very well pass the test required by the NHTSA.

This is 2014 and there have been NO Fires due to this so far.

Apparently the material meets Canadian codes so it's full steam ahead with sales in Canada

Just saw that on the national news here
