My I4 idles at .3 gallons per hour, I'd guess the v6 does .4-.5 when warmed up. For a short while when cold either might do 1.8.

I see you're driving a 4-cyl. 22mpg makes more sense now. I can't see anyone's sig or profile on tapatalk. I'm aiming for 18mpg average after I change the spark plugs and air filters, although I always forget that driving even remotely conservatively in this truck means moving at a snails pace.

I just got 29 winter with my I4, and I am saying that I think with a V6 I could pull 22 winter with my same commute if I had a V6 stick to drive for a tank.

Your air filter doesn't hurt MPG, I go 60K between filters.

Ya, you burn more when cold and when in open loop, but the V6 doesn't burn 8-10/hour at 70mph... much less at idle.

But... assuming 1gph when cold, idled for 20 minutes would be 1/3rd of a gallon.
Let's say he gets gas every 5 days, so he's idled away about 3 gallons assuming a 20 minute warmup in the morning and after work.

200 miles and say he buys 15 gallons = 13.3mpg
Not idling, 200 miles and he buys 13 gallons = 15.4mpg

It adds up and can make a big difference in your numbers.

Best I've ever gotten was 21.5 mpg and that was doing 55 on an interstate for 2.5 hours. Can't get near that any other way.

i'm getting better mileage out of my f150 reg cab 4x4 5.0L auto than i'm getting from my tacoma reg cab 4x4 2.7L manual. the taco has 32inch dc mud countries some steel parts here and there and a cap along with a full OME lift. the f150 has a 2inch lift on stock everything else, tires are kinda small at 235/75/17's. i know its apples to oranges but it sure is shocking that 201 extra hp and 4 extra pistons use less fuel..........

Not 100% accurate, but I know where I'm at. Drive like a grandpa, between 50 and 55mph. Use cruise control all the time. I fill up every 2 weeks.

How'd you get 18.2 to 26.7? What changed it so much?

I'm sorry but I"m going to have to call Bull sh&t on this. Maybe 35+ going downhill. Coasting the entire way. With the engine off. And the truck completely gutted.

Don't you think if these were able to actually get that kind of mileage Toyota would advertise it?

Driving habits. Plus, from going to work and coming home I encounter zero traffic. I'm gonna guesstimate I use the cruise control 90% of the time on that trip, and set it at 53mph. The speed limit here on Oahu is 55mph. Slow right haha.

90% CC, 50-55, no traffic, same commute, and almost 8MPG swing; doesn't compute. There is no way you're calculating it right as there's NO damn way to make that kind of swing in mileage with a consistent commute.

I do all kinds of different driving and my mileage swing is about 3MPG.

I just revisited the chart and see that you are doing it wrong. You always pump either $50 or $60 and there's no way to make that work to get MPG for that refill. You can average them all out and get a relatively accurate overall average, but not a per tank mileage.

When I first bought the truck, (Mid December 2012) , for the first few months I checked the mileage religiously. I always had a 18.5 - 19.5 mpg mixed Hwy / city.
Now with 15K on the odometer, I checked and am getting 15. no matter how I drive. What changed?

gas full of ethanol maybe? or just shatty gas from bad supplier? i found my tacoma good at 1st and gradually just dropped off over a couple years, it runs like a total pile of crap and has lost what little power it did have while becoming terrible on fuel. really disapointed with this truck long run, it is not a great truck, but it is an ok beater for the bush.

I guess you miss the part where I said "it's not 100% accurate". I let the app do the calculating. Only reason why you see 50$ or 60$ is because the change in gas prices. There no way in hell I'm gonna constantly fill the same amount at the same price. And when I fill up, I fill up full tank.

Take it as grain of salt. You don't need to believe it.

Are you always filling up until it clicks off, always going for an even dollar amount, or just plugging in $50 or $60 as the purchase amount when it was actually more or less?

What Donzi said makes sense and would account for some of your extreme swings.
