You'll know when its failing by the "egg fart" smell coming out exhaust, thats the CAT burning up IIRC

As far as stock muffler goes I've had full sized Ford/Chevy/Dodge trucks in the past with smaller, less restrictive mufflers than the OEM 1st gen.

Ridiculeously restrictive to exhaust flow, a little back pressure is needed but not nearly the amount that they come with, its more about EPA emissions than anything else

Ok so no egg farts yet lol
And so less backpressure with say a magnaflow will cause more HP then I would think ? I may be wrong

Yeah, less back pressure = less work engine has to do to push it all out (exhaust)

Rule of thumb learned in small engines class from high school (yes, I DO remember it haha..)

2 cycle engines = least amount of back pressure as possible = more HP

4cycle engines (us) some back pressure needed but not nearly as much as stock = more HP

I've had stock, & I had a Raptor & now the magnaflow, with the Mag. I can def tell performance increase

Ugh, I can't wait to get a Magnaflow! Still can't decide whether to go with a 14" or 18".

Unless the CAT is about 100% clogged, i wouldn't mess with it unless it made the difference between passing smog or not...

This is what I'm running now....

What's the difference between 14" and 18" besides 4"? I would like a new muffler but I just want a tiny more sound.

14 is more aggressive. I have the 18 and it's a nice Deep tone low in the revs, kind of sucks between 1500-2500, then sounds beautiful above around 3000.

14 inch is a deeper tone overall I believe. I might change mine out for one and test it out some time.

Yeah the 14" is more 'agressive'. The 18" seems to be a quieter, deeper tone overall. I have no regrets going with the 18" but you can't go wrong with either one, IMO.

I have the 14" and it sounds decent. Some days I wish I would have gotten the 18", but it's nowhere near as bad as the flowmaster 40 was on my 2.7L.

If I were to do it all over again though, I'd probably get this. Tomtom has it and I think it's the best sounding exhaust I've heard on our 3.4's

Have any videos of it? I'm curious as to what it sounds like on a 2.7.

Here's mine after I did the deckplate mod.

Definitely sounds WAY better when your engine is under a decent load. Second gear around 3000 RPM WOT pulling a hill or something sounds insanely nice.

Also, here is a long time ago before I did the deckplate mod. I was letting my friend drive, so it's not really a decent showing, but you can tell how it sounds far away and WOT.
