I just bought a 2013 Tacoma TRD Long Bed and did not like the look of the standard Dueler HT tires and wanted something more aggressive looking but also a good highway tire. After researching here I choose the BFG Rugged Terrain. I like the way they look although I don't have a lot of miles on them they drive and handled very well. I am lucky that I have 3 vehicles with the exact same tire size (Lexus GX 470 and 03 4runner). So I put the Dueler tires on the Lexus (my wife).

    Here are a few pics:

Offroad they're pretty good too. I've had em on my truck for about 26k now, and I can't complain. A solid tire at a pretty good price! There's probably better, but the price is why we went with these tires about a year and a half ago.

I like mine too. Upgraded tires and rims 2 weeks after getting my '13. I had them on my 2004 dc. When I needed new tires on that truck, I had read a lot of positive posts about the Definity Dakota from Pep Boys. I got them and used them for about a year. Good tire and despite putting about 25k per year on that old truck, they hardly showed any wear when I traded the truck in for the new truck

I haven't had them long enough to see how they do off-road. They have some tread so they should be good for light action. I ran the TA KO on my F150 and loved them but they are expensive and heavy (11 pounds per tire). I got these for $160 each plus mounting.

I want to get these tires as well. I've been running BF AT's and they feel real heavy. I hardly go off roading so these will be my next set. Looks good on your truck.

This is a great tire. I've put about 5,000 miles on mine and they still look brand new. Great traction in snow and ok traction on ice. Decent tire off road too. Very comfortable on the highway.

Why anyone buys this tire, or more accurately, why BFG still manufactures this tire is beyond me. A subpar product at a premium price. Mast Michelin at its worst.

I have seen another thread discussing these tires and was surprised at how many people disliked the tire. I think it's important to note that these are the BFG Rugged Terrains and not the BFG Rugged Trails that come standard on the TRD OR Tacomas. I have had the Rugged Terrains on my truck for about 30k now and I think they are a great tire. They handle well on road and off. I haven't been doing any serious mudding or anything, but for light off road use they have been great for me.

Also, they seem to handle wet roads very well. My truck doesn't feel like it's going to hydroplane when there's a lot of water on the road. Of course, others have complained about the wet traction, so your results may vary. My one complaint would be that they are a bit noisier than I expected, though not bad by any means.

Anyway, just my thoughts. Enjoy the tires! They look good on those wheels!

my f150 Screw 4x4 ate a set of the Definities in 25k but it was a real tire eater.

The Rugged Trails, more commonly referred to as Rugged Fails, are not the same thing.

Rugged Terrains come on some special editions, like the Texas Edition. I don't think they come on the Off-Road. I had them on my truck when I got it, they were decent. Like my Duratracs way more though.

I think some people on this thread are getting the rugged TERRAIN (what OP is talking about) with the rugged TRAIL (the much-disliked OEM tires on the TRD off road).

I've had these tires for 12,ooo+ miles. LOVE them! A little louder than the 'Fails... but not unbearable. Wear is slight and even. Great in snow and light mud... slightly less great on ice. I would buy another set of these with no question.

Same here. I have only driven them in the snow a few times on vacation, but they seem to perform well. I never had an issue with them. I did do some mudding with them and they caked up pretty easily with mud at very low speeds, but threw the mud off decently above about 10mph.

I certainly wouldn't recommend them to someone looking to play in the mud alot, but they are a solid all weather/all terrain tire.
