I am by no means computer literate. Tried to download Skype this a.m. and it "installed" itself. I've done a couple searches to try and figure out how to get rid of Bing and Conduit but have had no luck. Any suggestions?

You should be able to go to the add/remove programs in the control panel and remove the search bars. That's the problem with downloading programs, they always seem to be tethered to other crap that you don't want. And if you click next and that box is checked (it usually is by default), then it installs all the other crap as well.

If you're using IE, in your browser, select Tools->Manage Add-Ons. Select Search Providers. Click Bing and then click Remove. Then select your Google provider and click the "Prevent providers from suggesting changes to my default search provider".
