So I got back to the shop after being gone all day and noticed a huge dent in my driver side rear door. After I stopped crying, I took some pictures for the insurance lady. We'll see what happens. If it was just a small dent I'd probably just live with it and be sad when I saw it. However, since the paint is chipped it will have to be fixed. The whole door would rust out in a year from all the salt since I live in the Adirondacks.

@ 1500 miles I got put into the rail by a semi going over a mountain. He decided that he deserved my lane more than I did. Scratched up the front and rear fenders pretty bad where they contacted.

@ 3000 miles I mushed a deer, 4k worth of damage to the front end.

All I'm saying is don't feel too bad, damage sucks but shit happens.

Damn that sucks. Sorry to hear and thats a good sized dent too. Hopefully your insurance will take care of it but I'm sure you have a deductible you will have to pay.

I feel your pain. I got rear ended in Dec, my truck was 5 mos old. Had to replace the rear bumper so I took the opportunity to get a color matched bumper.

Write down your mileage. The wife or kid stole your truck while you were sleeping. Lol. FYI, I would cry also.

    Bummer man.

First month I had my truck I dinged the rear quarter panel good. Since then I got more and more damage, finally took it to the body shop for $2300 in repairs. Ouch.

That should be covered under Comprehensive Coverage Not Collision.

Comprehensive car insurance coverage is sort of a universal coverage that insures your car against pretty much anything that collision coverage doesn't cover. It is the insurance which will pay for damages incurred through such things as vandalism, fire, and theft.

Collision coverage is the auto insurance component which pays for damages stemming from an accident which happened on the road. Traditional accidents, damage from loose debris on the roadway, or even damage from the roadway itself is usually covered by the collision coverage on your auto insurance policy. What collision coverage might not cover is damage incurred in a private parking lot while the car is parked, even if another vehicle is involved. Collision coverage pays for damages to or replacement of your vehicle that you more traditionally consider an accident.

I would push for the Vandalism ( You did not have an accident, the car was parked ) which may not have a deductible and will NOT make your policy cost increase. I had a similar incident and that is how I handled it with my insurance.

Claims guy wants to replace the whole door. Says because the truck is so new he's rather just put a new door on it than try to fix the dent and paint.

Thanks to everyone for the support during my time of crisis.

I still haven't decided what to do. My $500 deductible is pretty hard to swallow right now. Anyone have chipped paint? I wonder how quickly it will rust.

I feel your pain. In October a severe storm moved through our area and blew 3 of my neighbor's really big trees over on top of my fence and my 2 month old Access Cab. Fortunately my basketball goal took the brunt of most of it, but I still wound up with dents on my hood, roof, and side of the bed. I could hardly wait to get it repaired.

I got a similar (but larger) dent about 6 months after I got my truck. I just used a touch up paint pen where the paint had chipped to keep it from rusting. Then I kept an eye out for a door at a junk yard. Scored a door the same color a few months back for about $300 and finally got rid of my dent after about a year and a half
