Just finishing a small [2"] lift and starting to look for a more aggressive wheel&tire to fill out the fender space. Summit Racing sells the "042" steel rim in 15x8 and 16x8; it comes with either 4" or 4.75" backspacing. The deeper backspace appeals because 265 [larger?] tires would then stay inside the fenders and not throw mud and salt onto the sides of the truck.

Probably not too many on this forum have worried about it, but cattle love to lick road salt after a winter storm. Right now with stock 15x7 TRD rims and 31's, they just lick the bottoms of the flares and inside the fenders, but wheels/tires sticking out past the flares and flaps would quickly cover painted areas with salt. Ever seen what a cow's tongue can do to paint?

Will 4.75 bs work with 265/75 16's or 32x11.5 15's? As far as oem goes, I'm not too crazy about my current rims, and the Tundra/Tacoma 5-blade ones are just f-ugly. Best would be 01-04 Tacoma 16x7 steelies, but those are hard to find. From the many pic's on here, it seems flaps can stay with 265 but not 33 or 285. Anybody running flaps with 32's?

    Thanks for reading this,

My stock wheels are 16X7 +32 offset and I believe they are 5.26" bs. I've been running 265/75s with no issues what so ever.

BTW - they'll be for sale next week! ;)

I got all my steelies from eBay; search for spare tire wheels.

FJ's sometimes came with steelies that would then be swapped to different wheels by dealer and those are the ones you want. Also spares for early Tundras and 4Runners.

They are out there and they are great wheels.

And yeah, cow tongues are pretty abrasive and they do love salt.

Stock wells are not 5.25" BS. They are 4.5"

4.75" will be too less I think.

    Thanks for all replies:

MD - awesome truck! So you've got a 2" frame lift with another 1" under the body? Looking at the 'crawling pics it'e easy to see why there are no mud flaps on your rig.

I once had an 02 Tundra with the same wheels as yours. Hated their look then; still do. Aren't all 1st gen 6-lug wheels 4.5 bs, and 2nd gen are 5.25 or so?

JD - looks like I need to get on the horn with the local junkyard. Other sites show FJ wheels at 4.625" to 4.75" bs. So these will work on my stock 2000 Tacoma with 10.5" wide tires?

dawg - didn't get the meaning of your comment about 4.75". Could you put it another way?

Whatever wheels I get, they will carry dedicated M/T's. At this point the budget can stand a good set of used "name" tires, or maybe Treadwrights.

the FJ steelies is what Im using but as far as width of tire goes, I use skinnies but what-ever will fit on a 7" wide rim.

My avatar pic, and the Black bear pass pic in my sig - 2.5" spacer lift. The Moab pic in my sig - no lift at all. :) The 1" body lift went in this past week in prep for 285/75s. I also have 1.25" spacer coming and new Ultra wheels coming on Mon.

I'm not sure the actual bs on my current wheels, thought I read somewhere they're 5.25. I'll measure next week after the wheel swap. New wheels will be 16x8 with +10 offset, 4.89 bs.

I take the mudflaps off when I wheel the truck.
