Outback Proven has a kit available for 2nd gens using Piranha components..they proved the kit for my dual battery setup. using 2 yellow tops.

So I'm part of the way through my dual battery install. Attached a pic of the work in progress.

But I have a question for anyone who's installed the Blue Sea 7622. I want to use the Start Isolation function. The instructions say to connect the brown wire from the 7622 harness "to the terminal or wire running from the start key switch to the starter solenoid". Where is the best place to tap into that wire? I haven't been able to trace it into the engine compartment with enough confidence. Any chance I can tap into it in the fuse box? Just looking for the best approach on this one.

 

I haven't hooked mine up in that manner. I just use the ON and OFF part of it. AUTO has not been used yet. I will track it down this week though. Now that I have my RFRM installed, I want to get ALL my wiring 100%. No more half assing it.

 

Sooon..... Going to get my 2nd yellow top hopefully next week then to fab up a box and wire it all.

you have a long bed. non HCRB right>? put it in the wheel well, in front or behind it that is...

 

Looked, you do have HC, but still should be able to stuff it in there. Get some THICK wire though. 2/0 would be my preference

 

I've been running multiple batteries in different vehicles since the 90's in my AV setups. How much of an Authority are you looking for. ?

I just hate to see bed space sacrificed for something that can be tucked away or otherwise relocated to a better spot.

 

Any future plans for OBW or OBA? Just asking based on mounting space.

I like the fender well locations myself. Had been thinking of moving one of mine into it. For me though, I might do a 3rd there.

I like having the winch battery as close as possible to the winch. That way al the accessories and winch are in the same spot.

Realistically, if you do the dual yellow tops/ red tops, you should just do the engine bay. Run all the accessories off the second one including the winch. Keep your main untouched as far as accessories go.

 

Just remember to take into account additional cost on WIRE to mount farther away. Not just the 15'-20' of 2/0 gauge wire, but the 20'-40' of 2 gauge for the winch also. Fabbing a mount for the new position as well.

 

You can get a management system, but like some of have done, use the BLUE SEA ML-ACR. Comes with a switch for the On (Linked/ Self Jump), Off (completely separate, not connected) , Auto (links after the engine starts) - plus the Led indicators on the Switch blinks mean different things.

Been working with a manufacturer to add 2 battery gauges in thin film LEDs to it also. Or a similar version of the switch. Having it fill a full sized switch bank is nice instead of another LARGE box sitting around to find a mounting spot for.

Its really a You decision though.

 

With my setup as it is now, I use none of the meters besides the ones I have on my Terminals.

The pic isn't current. I now have the ML-ACR (Manual Latching Automatic Charging Relay), and RFRM (Rear Fed Relay Module). Later today I will be building a mounting platform for them both and map out a 150 amp breaker or two on it also. If I had one of the WARN Connector Solenoids, I would mount it under there also. Cant even find the dimensions for one either.

Barlowrs did an awesome multiple piece mounting system for his setup. Would love to get the dimensional drawings to mimic his.

 

This is kinda my plan. Hoping to keep everything in the engine bay and running everything of the 2nd and using the solar system that I have on the rack to keep it all charged.

 

wow you have a lot of wires on your main battery...

I don't remember a brown wire, I just ran the bundle for the control into the cab and connected the difference wires to the required locations on each battery and the big relay. I also have the IBS booster, so that may be where my setup is different.

I've noticed my spade connectors on the relay sometimes loose contact enough for the display/control to flash a warning and the relay won't cycle until I finally used some pliers and made the spade fit tighter on the relay contacts.
