2lo in a taco?

    okay well im looking to buy a 1st gen 2000-04 so even if its the TRD or the SR5 it will still be non locking hubs?

    you will have automatic locking hubs. All front hubs are locking. thats what gives you 4wd. the question is whether the vacuum system does it automatically via the ADD switch or whether you have to actually get out of the truck and turn a switch on the hub (inside wheel)

    if you can see the switch in the middle of the front wheel where the rim center cap should be, that is where the manual hub is locked. on a tacoma with automatic hubs, the center cap would just cover the hub and it would not matter.

    While auto hubs are easier and more convenient for 4wd on the fly, they are also more expensive to replace/fix and are not as strong as manual hubs, especially in an off road setting. Aisan is OEM for toyota in the manual hub department, and they make the best hubs out there i believe.

    2000's have manual hubs. 2001 and newer have auto locking hubs.

    My 2000 has Auto hubs! and Auto hubs are just as strong as a Manual hub. there's nothing to break in in an Auto hub except for the Half Axel it self.
