Question, at what point in time do you tell a friend that drives a Subaru enough is enough? His less capable vehicle starts to affect our trips. Such as having to turn around, due to something breaking. We have gotten him through obstacles with towing/winching and shoveling. I do not want to be mean to the guy he can't afford anything else and likes the trips. On the upside I have gotten good at spotting and winching. The Jeeper in the group is fed up.

I will be honest. After watching that video, I don't think it is the truck. I think the driver needs some proper education on off-road driving. He is running incorrect lines, using skinny pedal and clutch feathering when he should run a lower range and let the engine do the work, and all around just does not look like he knows what he is doing. That is my opinion from just watching the video.

I think you have your mind wrong. The only data I have to go off of is that video so ........... Looks like he has no clue how to drive. That's what's holding him back. Not his vehicle. Suburas are very capable offroad vehicles and have great 4wd systems. He just can't fuckin drive. If he is your friend then you should have no problem telling him that. Depending upon how he reacts to that, it may be time to tell him to stay behind. But if hes open to critisizm and wants to learn and you think you are a capable person of teaching him then should stick with yall.

The jeep guy ........... Know one cares what he thinks anyway. ;)

You would think he would want to spare his Subaru the wear and tear and eventual carnage.

They are nice on pavement but not an offroad rig

Eh Subaru's weren't meant to go off road like that. I'd tell him to get a jeep or quit wheeling with you guys. I mean seriously you can get a jeep for pretty cheap on craigslist.

Id tell him next time it breaks on the trail it stays on the trail unless he can fix it by himself. If thats all he can afford why tear it up? Not really, that would be mean, but his driving skills are very lacking. Know when to say when.

I had a 2001 Ford Focus wagon that could handle some of the stuff on those vids. Not because it was made to (it most certainly wasn't) but because I had off-road driving experience.

My wife's Outback could go a lot of places if you knew how to drive it right.

    He needs one of these!

In the biking world....if you cant hang and the group is moving on, you're dropped. Friend or not (unless it's a girl and she is cute, but your friend is neither the first nor the second, then I will wait :) )

Sometimes the truth hurts. Particularly when the truth is that you're trying to wheel a Subaru.

Why don't you just say "the only way you are coming is if you are riding in someone's vehicle"

I don't wheel anymore but I used to for about 5-6 years when I had an '01 taco with 4" lift on 33s's with a bunch of armor to protect the rockers and drivetrain. Had this friend that wanted to come along with his stock Rav4. Here in the northeast, every trail is strewn with large rocks. I convinced him that he did not have the ground clearance for the trails we were running. A year later he bought a full size dually quad cab with 8' bed and wanted to wheel that. The thing was a freight train. I believe it was about 25' long. Some people just don't understand what constitutes an off-road vehicle. Subaru's are great cars with amazing traction control and decent ground clearance but they are not meant for rock crawling.

God points, I wanted others perspectives. The jeeper and I might just let him break it until he learns or doesn't have a vehicle, then rides shotgun in the Ruby. Thanks you guys are awesome.
