I was thinking about going back to a camper cover but about ruled that out...
So I need some type of rack system or Roll bar frame for the bed.
Want something to use for surf fishing, need fo be able to carry surf rods in the 10- 13' range and have used a normal rod/ski type rack on the top of a camper cover. Now with the bed I need to be able to lift it up above the cab so part of the rod can stick over the cab and the rest over the bed.
Got to thinking about all the tube type, roll bar style and then the work type ladder racks...

Any thoughts and anyone do the same?

There are a few out there. I'm running the All Pro Off Road Pack Rack, which I mainly use for the ARB tent but could probably do what you're looking for.

i built one for a customer about a year ago with similar requirements. only he transports kayaks, not rods. the crossbars that raise the kayaks above the roof are removable with just a couple of bolts.

That looks nice but I think if I had something like that I would want it to follow the cab lines better and be taller, start at the front of the bed and to to the end of the bed.
May be the pictures but it looks like the back bar is about 6" from the back and the front about 3-4" back. They are about level with the window and I would have thought is would follow the top of the roof line.
    Bt that is just me.
I would need to add a good bit of height to find a way for the rods to clear the cab.

a fabricator can build whatever you want, down to the fraction of an inch. this particular customer just wanted the main structure to sit below the roof line when the crossbars were removed.

Now that looks cool, the frame is taller.
Also the cross bars could be the smaller dia that fit the racks for the rods.
Looks like yakima changed them now, at one time it needed to fit their 1 1/8" bar or what ever it was.

All Pro can build one at about 22" High which would be 2" over the cab. Just an idea.

yep, you could have the crossbar diameter be whatever you want. this customer wanted them nice andstrong since they were for kayaks.

Thank you :) i find that if i draw by hand, that i am much more creative with my designs than if the first draft is done in CAD.

    10-4
