So the first mod on my new Tacoma has to be mounting the front license plate. The Truck was originally purchased in NC where they don't require the front license plate. The Guy I bought it from lived in VA for 2 years apparently without it mounted. I have it for 3 days and I've already been pulled over for not having it mounted. How did he get away with it for 2 years?

Anyway, I was going to just drill the holes in the factory dimples on the bumper but I know I want a bullbar or light bar eventually and It looks like most of those require moving the license plate so If I drill it now I will have 2 holes in my bumper when I get the light bar.

So any suggestions on how to mount the front plate without having to drill the bumper would be great. I've done some searches but haven't found much useful info.

I mounted mine using a pc of angle alum. Right below dimples by lower grill. Drilled up on bumper return, then drilled and tapped for license plate. This covered dimples, and keeps plate away from bumper. Holes for angle are hidden also.

I used a heavy duty plastic holder that was on my 2012 Mustang. Just a little bit of dremel work and it fit great.

There was a guy on here (from Hawaii) that was selling brackets that he fabbed and looked really clean. He wasnt charging that much ($35 ish at most) and there was no drilling what so ever. I will see if I can find it, I just found out Im heading back to VA myself and I dont want to drill my bumper.

I did something similar... But I used an adjustable mounting bracket (sprayed it black) from autozone. It hovered just in front of the lower portion of the bumper.

My truck is from Nevada and Arizona where neither state require a front plate unlike California. But honestly, I only ran it with that mounted there for about a month maybe 2. No plate for over 2 years. I did get stopped for it once leaving the bars and I was let go after the "follow the tip of the pen with your eyes without moving your head" test. I think he felt bad for me because I had 2 drunkies with me :p

I have a Westin bull bar on my 2007 and the plates work fine if you mount it using the bottom holes on your plates for the holes in your bumper.

I took some sheet metal strips and created a hook setup to mount to the bottom lip. I'll take detailed pics in a little bit. Total cost less than $10

I bought a flat plastic bracket at Auto Zone and zip tied to opening below bumper. I have an N-Bar and plate is just below it. I think in Tx even if partially obscured they would not do anything. There are enough running around with vanities, no plate, and plates on the dash to keep LEOs busy forever. I think 1 of 50 Camaroes has s plate.

Some people have the resources to look up a driver and their criminal/driving record, so blocking out a picture of it lessens the chance of people snooping.
