Just ordered my 3° axle shims to hopefully eliminate vibes after an Eibach/Dakar lift, but I was doing some reading and and found out that I may need center pin extenders to properly seat the pack in the axle, and maybe E-brake lever extenders. Anybody with Dakar packs running axle shims?

Are you running longer center pins?

If I remember correct the d akars have a long centre pin as it is. I actually had to cut mine because it was too long.

The pin length is fine , what you need to do is get a centre pin collar to extend the length of the head of the pin if you are using the slide in style axle shims

My experience is with 2nd Gens , not sure if the situation is exactly the same on the 1st gens

Yeah most of the info I was coming across was for 2nd gens, I was hoping to get some input from someone with a similar set-up on a 1st gen. Thanks for the info!

Cool, I'll try the install without the extension. Thanks!

The issue isn't the length of the centre pin , it's the length of the pin head , the head is about 3/8-1/2" at least on the 2nd gen pack , the head is supposed to fully seat in the axle , when you add the 1/4-3/8" thickness of the axle shim into the mix , the centre pin head now only sits in the axle by about 1/8"

The collar goes on the pin , sitting under the head and extending the head by approx 3/8" so with the axle shim in place the centre pin will still fully seat in the axle

This all applies to the slide in style axle shims

You can't get a longer pin and include the shims as well?

That style of axle shim doesn't require the collar , but it does require the pack to be removed from the truck to remove the pin , because the hole through the shim is the same diameter as the centre pin shaft , what I was talking about is the slide in style axle shims that you can add or remove without taking the leaf pack off the truck , the hole through that style of shim is sized to fit over the centre pin head , thus requiring the collar

I've never messed with the slide in style shims, but like the idea a whole lot better. Anytime i have messed with shims I've always got the other type where you have to take the pin out and add to the bottom.

Now i just need to find where to get those extensions

Some of this Some of that
I'm running dakars with the d6xl aal. I didn't need shims. no take off vibes. When i was running shackles i used pinion shims and i got the center pins with the little collar to make the pin long enough to reach the axle through the shim. think they came from toytec

You could just get these http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Solid-Steel-Axle-Degree-Shims_p_358.html

I run rubicon express 2* steel axle shims. They were reamed out for the dakar center pin.

I had to compress the leaf pack with a c-clamp and bench vice, and then remove the center pin. (Stupidly long already). Attach to the base, and torque it down. The head still protrudes the correct length.

Despite the fact the axle has a friggin oval slot in the axle perch for the centering pin...

OZ they just don't get what you are saying even though you have explained it very well.

I don't need longer center pins, I need the head on the end of the pin that is placed into the axle hole to be longer so that I can use the "slide in place shims" vs the "take your packs apart and add the bottom shims" which are a pain in the ass

Alright I think I get it now. How do you distinguish the slide-in shims vs the others? I ordered a pair of these and was planning on removing the u-bolts, placing the shim between the axle perch and spring pack, then reinstalling u-bolts.

    Thanks for the help!
