    Hey everyone!
I carry a small compressor in my truck for emergency purposes. Since that I live in the city, I check my air everytime when I fill up for gas. I noticed my tire was low yesterday and I used my compressor and it took 30 minutes to put in 10 PSI of air. I didn't expect much since that I spent $5.00(CDN) on it 2 years ago. I went to two other gas stations(one was free air and the other one was paid). The free one was broken, leak you could feel. The paid one wasn't putting air into the tire. It was losing more air then putting in. I hate paying for air, it drives me crazy. But I don't want to pay $1-2 dollars every week to a week and a half for air to top it up.

So I am wondering if there is a decent compressor that is compact, portable and can fill a truck tire in a decent amount of time for a decent price? I figured that some of you would know because a lot of you have bigger truck tire size then the OEM size that I run.

Any advice on brands, pricing, anything would be great.

Great compressor for the money. I have had mine for nearly 7 years but now I use mine as a backup.

I have a $10ish one from Walmart that works good enough in a pinch. Doesn't replace the one at home but it fits under the back seat. Have actually used it twice this week with people at work getting flat tires.

This is probably like the $5.00 one that I bought 2 years ago. It's good in a pinch but that's pretty much it. It wasn't an emergency or anything but if it's -35C outside, I really don't want to be out there with a shitty compressor trying to put air in a tire. In the summer, on my pedal bike it's no issue. I'll pay more for a better compressor if I don't have to pay for air or rely on the one that I already have.

Any of these compressors that will work with the plug in the bed on a TRD without drawing too much power? Would like to use it for other stuff than just the vehicle...

x2 ! I have had mine for many years and it works great. I even got mine back when they were 24 bucks, and bought one for a buddy for a Christmas present. Here is a good test of the compressor..

    http://www.gearinstalls.com/pepboys.htm

Whatever you end up going with, make sure you compare cfm's because you want the unit to move plenty of air. Otherwise you're going to have the same issue you have with your current unit.

Better off with a 12v unit and connect it to the battery.
The 120 comes from the battery, and is limited to 400 watts.
That's not going to run even a small 120v compressor (which would run you around $100).

I wasn't going to expect much from a $5.00 compressor. Since that I have to plug it into the 12V cigarette lighter(no battery connectors), I wasn't expecting a lot of air to be pushed out. Just trying to find something that's better, isn't a crap load of money and has somewhat a decent quality.

Yes, that's my point exactly. You can spend a bit more money (on the new one) and end up with the same 5 dollar compressor if you're not looking at the cfm of the compressor you're buying. In the test I linked, the quick air cost the owner 225 bucks more than the unit he tested it against and the 25 dollar unit worked better. In that case, he could have bought several to keep on hand.. and all together they would probably outlast the life of the quick air.. but I'm just assuming that. Just something to think about. Good luck and I hope you find the one you're looking for.

And those $5 compressors don't have the duty cycle for anything larger than a motorcycle. They might do 60psi, but it's going to take all day to get a 285 to 40 because it will overheat.

ive had this guy for like 3 years now. works great! can plug into the lighter or has clips for the battery. one of the best investments ive ever made.

edit: ive never plugged it into the cigarette lighter because i was unsure of the current draw. it was just as easy to clip it to the battery directly

Check out one of these. It will do a lot more than just fill up you tires.

I have had this exact one for over a year now. It works great.

Batter jumper, compressor, air mattress filler, light, usb charger, 12 volt power supply and power inverter.

I've got one of these exact units as well, and I've used the hell out of it. I have to say I have not used the compressor for much, maybe to fill a bike tire, so I don't know how well it does on truck tires. I've taken it on more than one road trip just to have it handy.

I am amazed that you check the air pressure EVERY time that you get gas…I do have a decent compressor from Harbor Freight.
