I'm sure this has been covered, and I assume that I'll probably get tons of hate mail for trying to get info. But......

I'm going to a dealer to test drive a 2014 double cab tomorrow evening. I'm looking for tips and advice on the new Tacoma. I'm trading from a 3 series BMW bc I need the ability to haul stuff but I don't need a big full size truck. I don't off road much, before the BMW I drove a wrangler and went off road a handful of times but never really needed 4 wheel drive. Below is the specific truck I'm going to look at. Any tips on add ons, options, price, features, etc... Would be greatly appreciated.

The MSRP is $28,935 but with my USAA discount the price is $26,909. Plus I get a $500 military discount (if I finance thru them) bringing the total cost of the truck to $26,409. How much further down do you think I could push the dealer, and do you guys have advice on angles I could use for leverage.

Here is the truck as described by the dealer....

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Have the dealer install that "Supercharger" thingy.

    Welcome!

I tend to get shouted down when I recommend going for the 4 and avoiding double-cabs, and beating the manual transmission drum.

So, I'll just wish you the best of luck with your new toy and please, feel free to poke around and talk...there's lots to be learned 'round these parts.

Have them throw in a bedmat, alarm or any other accessories you like.

They can usually do better on the price...if not, I agree with the above statement, get them to throw in a bed mat and/or floor mats or something you can use. Check NADA or KBB, they have an option to check what the dealer cost should be so you know close to what they have in it.

Get the JBL audio unless you plan on upgrading the HU. The standard HU's sound leaves allot to be desired!

    2014 PreRunner (Black on Black)
I bought my 2014 Tacoma PreRunner last Saturday so all of the wheeling and dealing is fresh in my mind. I decided against the V6 4x4 with all of the bells and whistles. Sure, I would have loved to have the power and toughness of a 4X4 V6 but it just wasn't in the budget. I ended up getting my 4 cylinder 2X4 down from 25,851 to 23,331. I qualified for the recent college grad rebate of 750 similar to the military rebate you would receive. Also, I had a "trade in" evaluated and added to the numbers. Once they presented the final numbers to me I explained I did not want to trade my vehicle in but I would like to keep the final price the same. The dealership agreed and went to shake my hand as it was a sealed deal. Try to avoid the outreached hand. It is a ploy to suck you in. It is considered rude to leave an outreached hand unshaken but I promise there is more wiggle room. Always be ready to leave. If you are not comfortable with the price say you need to sleep on it or talk it over with your wife/family/ or whatever your situation might be. If a potential buyer leaves that day the percentage of them buying that vehicle drops dramatically!! They will work with you to keep you from leaving.

One last thing. It is hard to haggle price with the Tacoma because it is in a world of its own. No competition currently and they sell like crazy. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Honestly, you're probably going to want color matched mirrors and grills, the raised front end and the hood scoop eventually. Just like me and I am stuck with the SR5

Go for a TRD, it's not much more and will probably save you the money in the long run

If the truck is exactly what you want, go for it because unless you order it you have to deal with Toyota's odd regional packages/options. I think you'd be hard pressed to get much better than the USAA price with military rebate.....and at least you know with USAA, you aren't getting robbed. Know that there is always someone on TW that will get a better deal than you, but as long as you feel comfortable with the price than you will not regret the purchase.

What are the specs on your trade in? That's where you will be able to make a couple grand hopefully. They will probably low ball you if its a nice low milage car

meh ill gladly take my e locker and ATRAC in place of a pointless hoodscoop and color matched crap.

    TRD off road
    or
    SR5

    sport is pointless IMO.

and get a 4x4 and the v6 ... especially if going with a double cab... that lil i4 has gotta have a hard time pushing it.

and I would rather have a 6' bed than ATRAC

    Depends on end use

I agree. I had the JBL sub in my 2011 access cab, and my 2013 stereo without the sub sounds way better. Better bass and clarity overall. Not sure why, but it was a pleasant surprise.

My advise. Don't. By used. The new ones don't seem to be as good as the old ones. I also don't believe they are worth the price the stealership asks for them new. I love mine and have spent a lot adding to it but that is because I bought used.

It's a 2001 BMW 325i with 140,000 miles. Blue book trade in is around $3,500-4,000. It's paid for so if I don't get what I want off it, then I'll just keep it and sell it outright or sell it to carmax. I don't have to trade but I'd like to if I can get a good deal.
