I'm beginning the hunt for a truck cap, and i'm wondering if they are available through dealers only or if i can save a few bucks (cheap mfr) by just installing it myself, but still buying new? is this possible? if so, where can i order from?> looked quick online and just saw referals to local dealers. thanks!

Crap, I think the closest Snugtop dealer is in Illinois. May just keep an eye out on your local or neighboring CL for anyone getting rid of theirs.

Leer may be the way to go.. They definitely have dealers over there...

Before you go spending $1500 plus on a new shell, i would check out the local classifieds like craigslist or something. I got a hell of a deal on mine, a dcsb leer 100xl for under 700$, plus it was colormatched for my truck already and was only a couple hours drivetime away. It was used but in great shape. Depending on the color of your truck, u should be able to find a good one. I see them all the time for sale on the buy/sell/trade section and on craigslist. I see all brands too..Leer, are, snugtop, etc. Good luck

No, i don't think that color is new for 2014. I think it was new for 2012, but not 100% sure on that. Get the color code from Toyota and you should be able to find a decent body shop (somebody you know preferably) and have them spray it. You never know, you may be able to find a used one in that color, may take a little time though. I would think in the 200-300$ range to spray it if you don't have a hookup. Either way, a used one in great shape and having it sprayed is cheaper than $1500. Just my opinion. I'm sure some folks would rather have new though. I see good used ones ranging from $500-800, so don't overpay.

No, that's too small. You need to look for one for '05 and later.
