    hi,

Thinking about getting a Ram mount for my phone. I like the tech deck but I think it will be in the way for seeing my heat/ac controls. So I'm thinking of screwing a ball mount into the switch blanks in the picture below and running the mount off that to my phone.

Do you think that's a study enough spot for the mount? Any reason not to? Advice appreciated.

You can buy replacement blanks fairly cheap, dash pieces will be much more expensive to replace. Id say give it a shot! They do have some extra plastic behind the switches but with enough dremelling you should be able to make it work. I have also seen people use the spot beside the radio opposite the 4x4 switch. Good luck!

Agreed, but some states have laws about attaching holders to your windshield. California is one such state, and while you will probably never be pulled over for doing it, you could be cited after an accident or when pulled over for some other infraction. Just depends on what your risk level is, and with my Taco having bluetooth, I use the radio anyway so location is not quite as critical. Though having it higher up and more in front of me would be nice when using Google Maps for directions.

Here is the Panavise bracket, with ProClip Nexus 5 holder, I installed in my truck.

    How heavy is your phone?

Another option to consider is the low-profile Kenu Airframe, in my opinion the cleanest-looking vent mount available:

i removed the little black filler on the left side of the radio and screwed my mount to it, then popped it back in, i'll have to get a pic of it, but this is the spot...
