Hi, I've got a 2004 Toyota tacoma TRD 4x4 with a manual transmission that I bought brand new in......2004, actually it was the end of March to be exact.

Anyway, I've got about 120,000 trouble free miles. This truck has got me all over the state of Idaho and back. Snow, mountains, mud, you name it!

I'm interested in changing my transmission fluid, transfer case fluid and both differentials. Been changing the oil myself for years and I'll keep doing that too. I bought a torque wrench but still need the big sockets.

My shifting is a little tight going from 1st to 2nd, especially when it's cold and my 4wd bangs hard upon disengagement...is this normal?

Planning on using the redline line of products for these projects.

    Here's a pic...

    Hey ChefJeff1,

Welcome to the boards. Changing the oil in your trans, t-case and diffs is pretty easy and a good thing to do. I think it will help with your 1st to 2nd shifts and your 4wd. Post up your impressions after you get it done!

Welcome. Definitely want to change those diff fluids and transmission fluid. As for the hard banging sound upon disengagement of the 4wd, that can be common if you are disengaging while wheels are turned, or if you don't engage 4wd often. My truck would always do that when I first bought it, given org owners never did use 4wd, but now I routinely engage/disengage and the sound is no longer present.

Also, what part of Idaho you in? I'm in Boise so if you're in the area and need a hand, let me know.
