Anyone got ideas or preventive maintenance to stop this peeling, not my truck. A friend of mine at work is having this problem I don't want the same to happen to mine. uploadfromtaptalk1394501933657.jpg

Mine as well and then I blasted and powder coated them. I don't think there is any avoiding it unless Toyota got it figured out.

The aluminum oxidizes and the paint or clear coat bubbles up. The problem is likely in the alloy that the wheel manufacturer uses. A chip or a scratch in the paint will get it going pretty fast. I imagine it's worse in snow and salt climates?

Welcome to the world of alloy wheels. They look nice when new, hard or expensive to refinish. Sometimes I think about switching to painted steelys.

I had mine replaced under the 36K bumper to bumper and the second set didn't last as long as the originals. Now at 100K miles they look terrible so it's either live with them or replace them.

Refinishing doesn't seem like a very good option to me. Paying to have the tires dismounted, remounted and balanced, paying to have them refinished or taking the time to do it myself with questionable results either way and not having the truck available plus the space it will take up while up on blocks. I think I've just talked myself into new wheels.

No money, all went to truck...
once there's a chip and elements can get it, its over!! I have had pretty good success using touch up paint to seal things up from a chip.

NOTE: PLEASE inspect your lug nuts holes. Mine have been chipped by toyota techs with the wrench when they rotate my tires. From the picture, I would think this is what started the decay. Most of the damage looks like it originates from the lug holes. I am going in this Saturday and they are going to discuss what to do about mine since they are still under warranty and only toyota has rotated my tires. I'm going to push for new rims.

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
Just don't let the dealer repaint them, they don't even remove them from the truck! They did mine on my '06, it eventually started to rub through and eventually looked like hell all over again. They had over spray all over my calipers too.
