Thats weird, my insurance company didn't even ask what color it was...matter a fact when I search about that it comes up over and over as a myth.

I've had 4 cars and never been asked the color before.

And a search on progressive.com (which is not my insurance company) I got this (under a Myths FAQ), looking on some other insurance sites I got the same thing:

"Red cars cost more to insure.

Color is not a factor used to calculate car insurance rates — we don't even ask you what color your car is when you get a quote from us. Factors that do matter are the year, make, model, body type, engine size and age of your car, as well as drivers on your policy. "

Could be your insurance guy wanting to pocket a little more, or some crazy insurance company that decided to cash in on a popular myth :p

I did like the SWB alot too though, but it was about the exact same color as my last car and I was ready for some change.

    Thanks again guys.

So they say. I'm assuming you did have to provide the VIN number?

Progressive may not take it into account, but I've gotten quotes from others than indicate they do. Got tired of doing insurance hunting myself a few years ago and just started going through a guy at a local agency that's been handling my folks for years. He's awesome.

Yea I had the price before I gave the VIN though, I use a local agency too, got me quotes from four companies and all he needed to know was that it was a 2009 4x4 DC Tacoma. I ended up with Mercury Auto Insurance.

Guess some of em do take it into account, I've just never experienced it and couldn't find anything on it, why it sounded weird.

Edit - I just looked on my carfax account, and it doesn't ever list a color associated with a Vin number anywhere that I can see.

edit again- yea I just researched it, Vin number doesn't provide any info on a car's color (I didn't know this till now, good to know though)

    Travelers for me.

Well whatever. My retrieval fee would've also been higher with Barc Red because they couldn't find one local and it would've had to have been trucked in.

In any event, I love my SWB, and your BR is gorgeous. If you end up in NC, PM me. We'll cruise.

Yea I had to wait a month and a half to get the Red at a dealership that would give me a good price. I actually bought it in NC. Live in VA though.

I came close to getting the SWB, I didn't like the way it looked on toyota.com (a few of the colors don't look right on their website) but when saw it in person it was really striking.

" Looks great. I never see that color on the road. "

I haven't seen another one locally (I'm sure there are a few though), I've seen a Radiant Red and an Impulse though. I don't think any color looks bad on the truck.

It's amazing how often you notice a certain car/truck on the road after you get one.
