I need to replace my passenger side boot and maybe axle. Will they also perform the boot slide mod? Or is it just a different boot that is designed differently?

They have a high angle bootoption for the inner boots but its a bit $$$. However, I think its worth it. I dont think they have one for the outer boots but I called today and askedabout the boot slide mod and she said just annotate it in the packaging for thetechs and they should be able to do it.

Of note, they use a cheaper version of boot than the OEM boot. While its better than %90 of OEM replacement boots, CVJ will tell you that the OEM boot is better. You can have them rebuild the axels with OEM boots but its also going to be extra.

If you have specific questions about CVJ, just give them a call. Very easy to work with!

Thanks for the info. I will contact them directly and discuss it with them. I don't need to replace the actual CV's at this time, so I might just look into purchasing the boots from them. I am in CO, so I could probably just stop in and talk to them about it too.

So, like the other guys mentioned, you don't need the boot slide mod with the CVJ high angle boots. My first gen boot looks pretty much identical to this second gen boot. I think you've got the right idea. Call up CVJ and talk with them a bit about it. They are easy to work with, especially if you can stop by in person:)

Just finished it up. Probably spent a bit more because I needed to add some parts washer solvent to my 30 gal basin. Left the inner drive cups snapped in to the gear carrier and just swabbed them out really good. No leaks on the diff axle tubes, so no need to disturb those shields and seals. Hospital clean as it went together. Just put 320 miles on it yesterday, on and off. No leaks. About $85-90ish.

The high angle boot is for the inner joint and the boot slide mod is for the outer joint so yes, you still need it. I have to send one of my CVJ's back because the outer needed the slide mod and ripped.

Funny, I got high angle boots for both sides on mine. They are different colors, an slightly different sizes but both sides work at higher angles without the fins rubbing each other.

This is an autozone remaned axle i bought a week ago and put in, literally the next day it snapped while i was doing some mild offroading! Save yourself time and money and get OEM axles!

I replaced them today with these oem axles:
I got my money back on the autozone pos

    CV Axle options

The best option for this is a solid axle....

But seriously I recently installed 2 new/rebuilt CV's purchased from some company called DTA, they have been on the truck for about 2 months & has been in 4x mode for a whopping 5 mins. just to make sure they engaged.....fast forward.... as of now both sides boots are completely torn away from shaft & I used a small magnet to drag thru the torn boot regions & promptly brought out 3 needle bearings & half of the cage the tulip/tripod rides on, absolute bullshit this happens, they were obliviously bad right out of the box... My OEM's were good up to about 185k

2 months on those?..wow. Those needles were shot before it went out the door. A typical Krylon rebuild,,without the Krylon.

A buddy has a lifted, armored Samuria and just had a trans blow. Swapped it out for a supposedly rebuilt unit. It made it about 35-40 eazy miles and puked again. Pulled a oil sample and it was loaded with crap. I mean dirt/sand inside the case. We cheezecloth'd out those filings and dried them out. Mostly sand. Sent a sample of the sand in a baby food jar, along with the popped unit back.

FedEx, next day air. New tranny at the door and a lifetime guarantee,,which is scary unto itself. We are going to spin this new one in the rig for awhile without load,,then take another sample.

I don't think the first one was ever rebuilt,,just haphazardly cleaned up and made pretty and resold.

This is exactly what I'm thinking about these CV's, especially when i saw the condition of the needle bearings, obviously not new, actually scorched & pitted

If its running dry (all grease has been flung out) and or got water in the boot, check the bearings very closely for scoring/scaring. If the bearings are bad, you need a new axle. If they look ok, just change the boot.

I the mean time, I used duck tape to cover my torn axle until I had time to replace it. I didnt drive it very long though and wouldn't recomend doing what I did

I talked to CVJ about a month ago and the price for a reman cv is $135 plus shipping for the cv and high angle boots. I'm not sure if that is only inner boots, or both. Then a $75 core.

I'm going to do it eventually, but for now I bought 2 new advance auto toughone axles for $56 each when they had 30% off. I will keep them as trail spares once I get the CVJ axles.
