I've been scouring the forums for info on lifts and we all know there are a ton of pieces all over. I just want to get some opinions on what I'm looking to do. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I have a 2013 access cab trd off road and am looking into a lift. I want 3" to fit 33" tires. I've been looking into the following:

    -bilstein 5100s f/r
    -spacer plate front
    -AAL rear

Do I need to get new springs or will the stock work?

Any suggestions for where to get the AAL?

    Diff drop necessary?

    Longer brake lines?

I'm looking at either Cooper Discoverer STT or BFG All Terrain T/As in 285/75r16 mounted on Moto Metal 951s 16x8, bolt pattern 6x5.5 0mm offset 4.5" BS.

Will I need a spacer for this?

I've seen mixed reviews on rubbing, although I don't know how to trim I'm sure it's in the forum and I can cross that when I get there.

    Thanks!
    Erik

If you can afford it 5100's, but I would recommend a different spring since you will need to set it at the 2.5 setting and thats gonna be tough on the shock/strut I have them set at .85 with eibach coils to make up for the difference. With 3 inches and 285's I had to trim some of the front inner fender, with 2.5 of lift you may need to cab mount chop but definately some light fender trimming regardless. AAL is good for the back. Not sure on the wheels and spacers. I have a TRD beadlocks and I dont rub the stock UCA's. The search button and time is your best friend, these are all routinely asked questions here.

Thanks for the input. I know the search button is my friend, we are quite intimate haha. I've come across a wealth of info, but some isn't for my year, some are doing slightly different things and not to mention the ton on inconclusive disagreeing opinions lol. I did this to consolidate my thoughts and see if someone has done this exact or similar work on their rig/ what people felt I needed, and again thanks.

I saw the OME full lift kit, but spending $800 seems a little expensive, especially if I'm not doing hard off roading. Mostly just to go hunting camping etc...

USAFWX, do you have the spacer as well or just the shocks?

No worries, if its second gen it shouldnt matter, the trucks are component wise the exact same, just cosmetic changes/options.

I ran spacers with no problems and have friends who have them still, they are fine for the occasional offroader, mostly street driver. 5100's with a stock spring will still preload the spring same with a spacer, I know alot of people shit talk spacers but alot of them have a preloaded stock coil on 5100's which is the same suspension geometry, etc. My set up has a different coil, different strut/shocks. Similar to a coilover just not adjustable since I dont plan on lifting higher than 3 inches. Here's my lift and end results. OME is a great option as well, the only problem is chosing the spring rate some people end up with more than 3 inches with an access cab and 885, some people had less with an 884, I wanted to have something I knew would match my rear, but it is a tested and trued set up. Lots of options and trial and error. You wont need a differential drop, its pointless on our trucks, you may find some vibes after you lift in that case you may try axles shims or a carrier drop bracket. I was fortunate to not have any vibe issues as of yet. Again no two trucks are the same.

Thanks for the input again, this is exactly what I was looking for. Helps me find other components to research.

I did some more reading, and once again got some really mixed reviews on the 5100s, Eibachs and the spacer. To my understanding without the spacer, it would sit right around 2.5", for the full 3" gotta get the top spacer.

Have any previous Jeep owners had the 5100s with spacers too? I'm coming from a lifted Wrangler, so when people say the ride quality diminishes, I'd like to know just how bad.

All in all, I'm heavily leaning towards the 5100s all around, Eibachs, top plate spacer, NO diff drop, and 2"AAL.

Thanks again for the input guys

Its a top mount not a spacer so you cant remove it, it rides smoother than my spacer lift but not by much. If you lift the truck no matter what you will be changing how it rides, it was not designed to be lifted. Im sure if you spend the $$$ on icons, etc. you can get the ride to be the same if not better, but again its all about your preference for me its a truck, it rides fine, handles like a truck would and Im happy with the look. If i was concerned about ride, cv boots, gas mileage than I would not lift, but for me its worth the trade off. Opinions are like assholes and everyone on this forum has theirs. Again, stick with toytec, downsouth motorsports, etc for your lift and you'll be fine, all have great options based on budget, and again you get what you pay for. It just amazes me sometimes in here how people bash on certain lifts but dont understand the mechanics or geometry of the set up and just sound stupid, the guys in my shop are mechanics and laugh at some of the silly arguments on here about spacers, etc. Like I said go with what your budget allows and what you feel comfortable with and if you want to upgrade later you can.

This is from the toytec site: "1.5 to 3" lift kit with Eibach front coils (3" average lift is achieved with coils and setting the shock adjustment on the second C clip setting from the bottom) DO NOT EXCEED THIS SETTING OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR

Double cab models may require top plate spacers for full 3" lift"

If I'm understanding this correctly, they're suggesting that WITHOUT the spacer (unless a double cab), you'll get 3" at the .85 setting.

Is this correct or just a sales pitch? The top plate spacers are an extra $60, so if they're going to put me over 3" I would skip on those.

Im not sure what your looking at but this kit: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/3-lift-kit-with-Bilstein-5100-Height-Adj-Coilovers_p_364.html
dosent mention anything you just wrote. Again billes with eibach coil with the top plate mount gave me exactly 3 inches of lift on a 2011 access cab with no additional weight. Sounds like your looking at the OME kit has a top plate spacer you need.

I have mine set at .85 with eibach coils and the top mount for a full 3 inches. Lots of people run the 5100's at 2.5 with stock coils but again thats alot of preload on the stock coils and the ride will suffer.

Gotcha. Regardless 2.5 or 3 inches you will still run through cv boots etc faster than stock, still have potential vibes and likely will need to cmc to fit the 285s you want to run with only 2.5 inches of lift.

This has been dead for a while, and thought I'd update where I'm at. I've decided on the

-Toytec 3" lift w/ 2" AAL. I will not be getting the Diff drop, unsure of Top Plate spacers.
    - Pro Comp La Paz Series 29 wheels. 16x8, 5on5 Bolt pattern, 4.5" B.S. Offset: 6.
    - 285/75/16 BGF All Terrain T/A

The last issues to clean up are whether or not I need to get the top plate spacers (Called toytec and they advised no) and if the offset will work.

I'm in the same boat as you. Looking to lift around 3" but not offloading hard, just basic camping and beach runs really. Please keep us updated. I feel like there is too much info out there and I can't make up my mind haha

    Here's what I ordered:

-Toytec Bilstein Lift. Will be set to second notch, and Eibach coils. No top spacer plate. 2" Rear AAL. (13' TRDs don't have the additional leaf).

-285758/16 Cooper Discoverer AT3s, on 16X8 La Paz Wheels.

Install will happen third week in March while I'm off.

So I got all the parts in and installed last Friday for anyone interested. The lift kit when in relatively easily, I learned a few tricks along the way if anybody is looking to run this set up.

I didn't anticipate making a how to, so the photos are more or less a before an after thing. However, the main thing I would highly suggest:

    - Have at least two jacks. When doing the rear leaf springs, its helpful to have one under the rear diff, and one right in front of it by the U-joint. This allows you to manipulate the angle of the rear diff, and subsequently the mounting surface of the leaf springs.

And if someone is looking for more info, just let me know.
