I have a 2005 Taco w/ 130000 miles and love the truck.. While replacing the right rear axle seal I noticed the leaf spring frame mount on the front of the spring rotted through. This is the mount that is attached/riveted to the frame. Is this considered part of the frame and do you think Toyota might pay to replace it??[IMG]

No one can really answer that except Toyota. You have to replace that to be safe on the road for you and others. So ask the people who can tell you yes. The internet can't help with this one.

I would say no, Toyota would not replace that for you. Unless your dealership is well above average, they won't even fight for you. I would definitely try but don't pin any hopes on it getting approved.

By judging from the rust that's in the back ground also, you've got problems.... I've heard of them replacing entire frames for about $1000, so i wouldn't think that it'd be too expensive for that. Best way to find out is to ask the dealership. Good luck.

I would defiantly take that to a dealership to at least start some kind of paper trail for when it does let loose. That would make me a little nervous.
I imagine the rest of the frame is not much better. Have you checked the area of the inner frame near the left forward cat converter? Cab mounts?

Thanks for the reply.. The rest of the frame has the typical rust but no holes like the spring mount ,, Most likely wont be long before the rest has rust holes....

They have to deal with salt and snow and all that stuff up there. I've heard it somewhat common up there to a certain extent.

Pretty typical based on areas of the US. The north gets rust issues while the southern areas get paint and weatherstrip concerns.

I would go threw and sand and paint all the bad areas of your frame to stop it from progessing in any other areas of your truck.

That's pretty rough. Was the truck always in Mass? I'm looking at somewhat the same stuff, though not as harsh as yours.

05's are coming up on being 10 yrs old this year.

Yes the truck has always been in Mass and has only high way miles on it. That is where the rust comes from. They use straight salt on the high way. It must be bad metal because the other side is rust free..

That's crazy. You should really open up a claim through Toyota. Its a pain but the more claims they receive, the more chance they will do something about it. Just got to fight a little bit.

I'm going to crawl under mine tomorrow and get better looks at the problem areas that have been reported. I know I knocked off a ton of flaking metal about a month ago from the tow hitch. Wasn't real happy about it.

I sent pictures to Toyota Diservice and was told I'm out of warranty so they wont fix it. Shocking news...
