I Currently live in NM, but commute to Fort Bliss which is in Texas. Both states have very different laws on carrying. NM is an open carry state which makes having a pistol anywhere in your tacoma very easy. This install would not be legal in TX to my best guess because TX states the pistol can't be in plain sight.

I recently installed a blackhawk holster underneath my steering wheel. It took 5 minutes. The holster can be removed, although it is a little difficult to wiggle it out from the plastic, but I do not plan on taking it out. It doesn't get in the way of my legs, and is in a perfect place should I ever need to quickly and discretely go for my XD40.

To install I used a dremel, and a blackhawk holster.
I got the holsters basic dimensions down and marked the location of the hook on the holster so I would know where to dremel a small square. Once the square is drilled in, I just slid the holster down the inside of the plastic beneath the steering wheel. I did not go behind the metal back there for fear of to much work with the dremel, or hitting any wires back there. Total time 10 minutes if you want it to look factory made.

Looks good Dave! I like the set up. I'm in a state that requires it in the glove box though.

Very nice, however I would cover it with a cloth or something to avoid problems from any tyrannical LEOs.

If you're going on to Ft Bliss that's not going to work.

Why? Here in TX that's not the law at all. It can be anywhere in the truck as long as it's concealed. With or without at CHL.

In New Jersey that's a felony. It must be nice to live in America.

that link is pretty legit. I just would hate trying to explain to the law how my legal carry is made legal by a hat covering it ha! It is true though, that seems like the quickest/easiest way of concealing it for states that require the concealment of it in vehicles.

Ya, no weapons on federal post. Didn't make that part clear, in my initial post, but I do travel between the El Paso area, and NM a lot.
