I have a new Taco, and today I was looking over some of the features in the bed, storage boxes, electrical plug, etc...
I then was taking a closer look at the "bed liner" and noticed that the, bed to frame, bolts ran through the liner.
Upon closer look from under the truck, it looks like the bed floor is plastic?
Whats the deal with that, when did the steel go away?
    Thanks,

It's a composite material. It's actually stronger and more durable than the metal beds.

So far I like the composite fine. But a word of advise, invest in a mat if you haul stuff around. I tried taking the brake rotors from my wife's vehicle down the the auto parts to get turned and no amount of cautious driving could keep those things from sliding around like shuffleboard pieces. That was the decisive factor in ordering my mat.

2004 last year for metal beds. 2005 inner shell is composite with the outer bed panels metal.

Definitely. It is like ice. I still have to invest in a mat. I have a bed bar plus bungees to keep my stuff in place for the time being.

I got a rubber stall mat from a feed store and cut to fit my bed for $40. its nice and thick and has worked well for me if you don't want to buy a OEM mat.

Seems like a good product. Just pricey.

Others have said that the spray in liner people won't warranty the product on the composite. So, I get the impression that they're not 100% sure it will stay on well. It seems like it should bond to it, but I guess no ones wants to throw a few hundred out to find out for sure. Guess I don't blame them there. So, a mat it is. I used my front bed bolts to hold mine in place from potential thieves, wayward car wash blowers. I also threw in the factory D rings at those spots and the center row bolts as well.

I didn't find the spray in liners to have that much traction. That stuff is really slippery when wet. I'm not sure why they claim that it keeps loads in place either. It is better than a bare bed but not nearly as effective for keeping stuff in place as a good rubber mat.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
Yep. I tired to get the dealer to throw in a bed mat but they stated they were already selling at like 500-600 under invoice so I didn't push the issue further.

I did "get" the film paint protection for "free" though.

Hmm...that's strange. What brand of spray in did you have? I have a rhino spray in, in my 97 Z71 that's been in since 97 and it's always been grippy as hell. It's slicker when wet, but not slicker than a wet metal floor.. or a wet mat. I'm not a fan of some of these spray ins that are super hard and thin. I like the thick chunky rubbery grip of my rhino liner spray in. When it's dry you have to get into the bed to get what's back there out. There is none of that get your fingers on it and pull it towards the bed side until you can get a better grip on it. You can't get it to budge like that.

Don't forget to look where the blinker fluid goes into. :)

Blinker fluid? Is that like "Prop wash", "box of grid squares", "500 feet of firing line", "SILENCO explosives", " BA 1100 N, batteries", "Southern hemisphere north needle for a compass"? Okay not quite that stupid.
A rubber mat is a great idea, I just happen to have one from an Chevy on the garage floor that I can cut.

We recently purchased a roof top tent and ladder rack (like this one http://www.truckrackdepot.com/asset...-Master-Heavy-Duty-Pro-II-Ladder-Rack_lg2.jpg) to fit on the bed over the camper and top of the truck. When trying to put the rack on the bed rails we realized that the bed is only the plastic liner. Have any of you had any luck with the racks? It doesn't seem strong enough to hold the rack plus weight of cargo (including tent 150lbs and two sleeping adults) - I hate the idea of needing a different truck for this.

My bed had paint poured all over it from the previous owner and I had so much trouble getting it off that I ended up sanding down the entire bed. I sprayed it with Rustoleum Spray on bed liner and it kicks ass. Super grippy. Even when wet. Much better than the slippery composite. I don't think it would have stuck well without the sanding though so that is the hard part. I also have a bed mat though because no amount of grippy liner will work as well as that.

Weathertech makes a pretty cool bed liner mat thing. Check it out on their website for our trucks. I almost bought it but the dealership is down the street and I got a used mat for cheap.
