Hitch Receiver Lock: 2011 TRD

I need some help. I had a 2010 Tacoma TRD with tow package and my "Master" hitch lock worked and fit perfectly. My 2011 ( traded in the 2010) has the same tow package but this lock is slightly too short for the new hitch receiver.

I'm having a hard time finding one that will fit. Donyou guys recommend one for me? I bought a used Lowe boat this weekend and while the trailer hitch has a lock on it, I desperately need one for the truck.

 

Reese makes a chrome tow bar lock with a 3 1/2" lock. Home Depot carries them.

 

Can you link me? I only see two HD carries.

 

If you're looking for a Hitch "Pin" Lock, look up "LifeLong Locks"
Bought one for my 2010 TRD Sport, it's plenty long.
Think they had different lengths,
They also have other types of trailer related locks you can get, all keyed alike

That's funny, I know exactly what your are talking about. I bought the high end Master Lock one, thinking it would be good. Well yes, it's about a 1/8" too short. So I took the dummy end to the grinder and made it longer. Then about 3 months later I wanted to remove it and it was freakin' seized so I got the ball peen hammer and it took 2 whacks to get the lock part to come off. What a piece of shit.

Get the cheaper ones with the dogbone leg. It fit great. Just bought it this weekend.

 

I just checked those out, they look very similar to the Master Lock branded one I talk about above. I will never buy one of these with ball bearings as the catch. Like I said, it popped off with two light whacks of the hammer. I think I could have knocked it off with my shoe.

 

Who steals a hitch????

 

No one. They steal the boat, or snowmobile trailer or whatever that it's attached to.

Although my hitch is about a $60 item.

Haha! You guys in NS are ok by me. Except my first time when I was there and realized they don't sell beer on Sunday... Damn it!

 

Mine has been stolen twice.

 

I've had this same problem when buying hitch locks. I buy the one with longest pin so it will fit. I go through them every 2-3 years. The salt and road grime get's in the lock mechanism and the tumbler stops working no matter how much I take care of it. A couple whacks or a cut off wheel get's it off.

 

I got back to the airport parking lot one Friday and my bumper mounted ball was gone. I went to like 3 stores to find so maybe someone had the same problem. They steal anything around here. I bought a hitch lock that works off my truck key. They are a little pricey but I did not want any more keys.

 

I've had no dealings with the Master Lock, so I'll defer to your opinion.
My LifeLong's been on (+ off) for about 4 years
I just removed it to change my hitch step to a recovery shackle for the last snow storm.
Turned Key, Button Popped to release the head.
Changed hitch accessory and pushed keyed button head to lock.
Has functioned like that, a few dozen times.
I did lube it when it was new, and keep the cover on the keyed end.
Have never had the need to hit it with a hammer.
Hope it holds if whacked by a thief. I wasn't testifying to it's security effectiveness.
I posted it as a solution to the length of the OP's orig lock.
Otherwise I've been satisfied with mine.

After a little research:
When purchased, mine were warrantied for life.
I purchase directly from LifeLong's site, which now appears to no longer exist
They appear to have been bought out by Fulton Performance.
And are now called Bulldog Lifelong and carry a limited warranty.
Can't attest to the quality of these new locks
