    Hey Guys,
Going to install my backup camera this weekend. (Not in the tailgate handle). Anyone have a reason why I shouldn't mount it where I mock taped it in the picture or have a suggestion for where? The tow hitch is somewhat limiting to mounting locations, so i was just going to thru-bolt it to the hard plastic so it is still near center.
I am also going to silicone it and flat black it so it doesn't stand out as much.

If you have a camera mounted on yours (not tailgate handle) feel free to post it here because I had a hard time finding any pics while searching.
    This is the camera..

The only problem I see is that it's not very well protected. How about above the bumper step? At least it's a little better protected from the elements...

Thats a good idea. I wasn't sure if it was better off protected from above or below. It claims to be waterproof but i am still going to seal it up. I thought it might be more protected by the trailer hitch.

I used the 7 pin mounting bracket. It got mangled a while back so I tied it up under the bumper.

Everyone O know that wheels their truck even a tiny bit has mangled the 7 Pin bracket. That looks even less protected. I would drill a hole in the bumper itself.

For anyone interested, I thought it might help since I didn't have much of a reference.
This is the camera I went with from Amazon - $26 & Waterproof http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Q65JHM/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hooking it up was relatively easy. I disconnected the battery, removed the HU, and plugged the video cabl in. Then ran it behind the drier side dash -> driverside kick panel, through the rubber grommet under the seat, down the frame to the camera. I tapped into the Power and Ground for the LED bed lights I installed a while back. That is all located behind the Driverside tail light.
The reverse sensor wire was already connected b/c the PO had an AVIC Z1, so all I had to do was connect to the HU.

I mounted the camera under the bumper just left of the trailer hitch to offer some protection ( I am not a wheeler). I also siliconed the camera despite it being waterproof.

I connected the battery, re-installed the HU, and changed the Backup Camera setting to ground. The camera comes on when I shift into reverse or I can manually turn it on at any time (no bypass required, Pioneer HU).

Overall I am happy with the results for about $30 and a couple of hours of Taco-Time.
Hope this helps someone else looking for an affordable option. This worked for me, your needs/install may be different so use your judgement...

Mounted into the rear bumper. where you put yours I was worried with hitting it backing up, or with trailer hooked to it. Plus less wires hanging down.

Thats nice flush mount. The design of the camera I used isn't the best for through fitting, but i may still try it if i can figure out a way to do it.
I too am concerned about losing it, but i wrapped the wires around the hitch frame so nothing is dangling (except the camera of course)

Newlife, I was thinking about a similar mounting. Does the bumper clip off any of the image on the sides?

I have a 2013 SR5 with the camera in the mirror, which is great if your tailgate is up. However as a renovation contractor, I do backup with the tailgate down often.... so while replacing the head unit I installed the wiring for an additional backup camera on the bumper. I chose the licence plate unit sold on Amazon, nice and clear on the head unit.:)
