I have my system all installed except for the remote bass knob because I have not found a place that I am happy with yet. Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

I am thinking about going inside of the little cubby on the left of the steering wheel (the one that provides access to the fuse panel)

Or I have seen people use the empty blank on the bottom of the dash, but I have no idea how to do that.

If you could share your locations with me or point me to some threads with this info or a write up about the dash location that would be great!

    thanks guys

    * also the blanks I want to use are in the center of the car, under the radio. All the ones on the left are used in my car

I have mine in the same cubby hole, in front of the fuse panel. Easy to access and hidden from view.

Subscribed. I am planning to install mine this weekend and been wondering of locations. The unit for my bass knob is pretty large and I don't think I could fit it in a blank. Been thinking about the storage bin located to the right of my steering wheel. I like the idea of the storage bin to the left if the steering wheel near the fuse box.

I put mine in the cubby to the left of the steering wheel. It has an annoying blue LED that is to bright at night, so putting it in the coin tray was a perfect spot for me. I mounted it to the top of the cubby.

Thanks for your input, I think that I am going to put it on the center console, right next to my seat (by my right leg). Ive had it loosely in the cubby to the left of the steering wheel for about a week now and I came to the conclusion that it is too far away for me to adjust hahahahah to each his own!

Heres another question though, my remote is too tall for the seat to move forward and backward without severely rubbing on it if I put it there, so could I find another knob that has the same connector (I guess its just a phone jack?) and mount that one?

Or do i need to use the alpine knob with the alpine amp?

Not sure but my mine uses a phone jack aslo so i would guess they are universal.

Don't know that I would recommend that. The pin-out on the connector may be very different (12+ and 12gnd could be on different pins and you could damage the amp and knob) and any circuitry contained therein may produce different results.
(I work in commercial A/V but spent 6 years as an MECP installer in Mobile Electronics) :)

I'm inclined to agree. The universal remote knobs have RCA connections and the branded ones (Alpine, Rockford, JL Audio) all have the phone type of connections. Maybe try contacting Crutchfield and see if they know.

For my knob, I did something pretty unique. I don't have four wheel drive, but I bought a four wheel drive switch and mounted my knob to the back of that switch. I also modded the four wheel drive switch so it moves freely and doesn't jump between 2wd, 4-hi, and 4-lo. It's completely stock looking and now I can go into super 4-lo!

Easy to get to, can't see it because of the Okole's and is not in the way.

I put mine right in the little cubby with some clear double sided tape since I didn't want to drill the screws in and just ran the cord through a hole in the cubby

I know this is bringing this back from the dead but I finally got around to screwing with my Alpine bass remote knob and found a home I'm happy with finally. I had initially mounted it out of sight and out of mind in the tray beside my left knee in the dash but after a few weeks I found that simply wasn't convenient. I had to shift around a bit to get the door open and reach down to get to it...wanted a simpler "at hand" way to adjust on the fly. After taking apart the case on the knob I found it was just about perfect size to fit in one of the block out plate locations on the dash. I didn't want to permanently modify the dash so the fact that it fit was a bonus. I took a dremel to the back side of the blank plate and made room for the switch to fit...took some time to get just right but I'm very happy with the results.
The plate fits back in and will be easy to replace when the truck gets passed along. It's within easy reach and can't really be seen from anywhere outside the truck or inside if you aren't in the drivers seat. My left hand can fall on it naturally by resting on my leg so ergonomically speaking it's perfect. I dig it.

I've seen this a few times and it is the coolest idea ever for a remote bass knob. I don't got 4x4 either but am wanting to do this mod, just no need for remote bass in my truck.

BUMP- old thread but seems like it was a great one!
what do you all use to mark the bass knob level (assuming it doesn't come with a stock white line?) mine just had a groove in the bass knob and I got a very fine white paint pen and marked it but then started thinking about possibly a glow in the dark paint line to see at night bc i can't see it (have it to the left of steering wheel in a blank). just curious if anyone has done this or has ideas on how to get an illuminated line look for the bass knob or an even better idea possibly. thanks! **please see my knob below ! (yeah I know how that sounds)
