Driving home from work, suddenly heard a loud noise that hit my truck on the front end, pulled over to inspect and found a pebble in the Ac condenser:( just bought this truck 2 months ago and this happens.. Sigh.. I was wondering if there is a difference between the 2012-2014 models on the condenser, visited my Toyota dealer and they said it doesn't cover this kind of damage:mad:
I've research our community and some vendors here but they haven't got the condenser yet since the truck is a 2014 model. Any input will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Did the pebble wedge between the fins? Is it leaking or has it lost it's refridgerant?

If it's not leaking, straighten the fins out and call it fixed. I wouldn't worry about it... IMHO.

    A flop? How?
Every vehicle on the road has exposed a/c condensers.

Call a local radiator/condenser shop to fix it for a couple of hundred.

Anyway, i got in touch with my insurance and they said they will cover the damage, its between $1500 to $2000.. The condenser alone is already 800+ for a brand new one, yikes!

Your insurance rates shouldn't be affected from a claim like this. Mine weren't.
The $500 deductible sucked though. (in my case I had a $200 credit for not having a claim before).

2k? I hit a bird in my brand new Golf R, and the condenser and associated labor was a bit under $800.

Get a quote, not the end of the world. I wouldn't think it's insurance worthy though.

The OEM condensor is $587 on toyota parts online (didn't shop, you can probably find cheaper oem), 2-3 lbs of 134a, and 2 hours or so labour is nowhere close to $1500.

Well, in my case I was 2000 miles from home and it was 90+ degrees out so I took it to a dealer and had coffee and donuts and watched CSI or some shit while they fixed my truck and then I sent my insurance company the bill and they paid it minus my $300 deductible and why the fuck do I have insurance if I'm not going to use it and no my rates didn't go up because it's a comprehensive claim so yeah I'm so dumb I could have shopped for the parts and spent $600 and waited a week for them to be shipped and then spent a day taking the front end apart in the garage I don't have and then getting the system charged.
Can't believe I was so stupid.

Get it fixed as soon as you can; you're raming moisture and air into your system as you drive which is real bad for the health of your ac.
I'd make sure Toyota did the fix using OE to ensure warranty; don't go to local shop.
Proper fix will be to pull/replace condenser and any external filter/dryer to protect the system, remove the expansion valve and flush the evaporator/entiresystem to remove contaminants such as moisture and dirt.
Also check to make sure they don't owe you a new grill (check for cracks)???.
obtw, this is one thing that off-roaders have to be careful about, cause if the damage is incurred off-road (i.e. NOT normal roadway driving) ins co will decline the fix...your fun-your $$$.

Dj, no one called you stupid or dumb. If you got it done that way, kudos towards you! Absurdly priced, yes, but that's how shops make their money. And if you have the coverage to get it done why not! 300 for a $1500 dollar job ain't bad at all!! If I were in your shoes, I would do the same, but dealing with insurance sounds like two hours on the phone and a headache, plus my deductibles are $1000.... There are ways to get it cheaper and on a budget, but if the op has insurance, and decent deductibles, I would suggest you do what Dj did and get it thru insurance, through the dealer and only pay $300 for a $800-1500 job.

I've seen too many as well. Hence my Ghetto-liscious condenser screen. Fits good and holds firm for a quick job. I used some stucco mesh I had laying around. When I get a replacement guard I will likely either put something better back there or get or add expanded metal to the guard. I painted it flat black to blend a little better in there. Secured it all with zip ties although it fit so tight I hardly needed them. Sorry for the crappy pics. It's pretty ghetto.. but if it saves me a chunk of change to spend on something I want vs replacing something I already had.. I'm good with it.

Hum, no other manufactures have these issues? Guess you haven't worked on many A/C units.

Can someone tell me if you can replace the condenser without having to remove the radiator first as it states in the repair manual? My condenser has a leak, have bought a new condense, O-rings and compressor oil. Would like to replace myself and then take to the shop for recharge. Thanks for any help.
