Need some tips on how to get plasti dip off the emblems of my first gen. tacoma without it peeling off. Spent 7 hours already plasti dipping them and all but the emblems on the driver and passenger side door came right off. Any ideas?

    thanks,
    Richard

So you're saying you tried to peel around them and all of the dip came off instead? I used a ton of Plasti-Dip coats and then used an X-Acto knife to cut around the emblems, turned out pretty good.

I dont mean to thread-jack, but I've been thinking about doing this on my truck. Can you wash the plastidipped pieces without the coating coming off?

Yeah. I even use a brush on mine and they hold up well. I wouldn't shoot a power washer at them or anything though..

Yeah I just tried to peel it off and it just pulled right up. It sounds like what you did is what Im gonna have to do. Was it tricky using the X-acto in the small spaces of the emblems without nicking the paint?

I got a few thin scratches in my paint, but my truck's kinda old so im not worried about it. Maybe someone else has suggestions about tools that wont hurt paint at all

I've read that toothpicks work well and don't scratch the paint.

Did you leave the wheels on or take off during the process?

I used Rustoleum clear coat over top for more gloss and protection

This is after almost a year. They still look pretty good. I had the tires balanced though, so i have to dip over the new weights.
