The goose was injured. Hard to tell how badly. Bleeding from mouth but all limbs worked. Took the goose to wildlife rehabilitation center, hopefully it will make a full recovery but it's not likely.

Contacted Geico, fortunately animal strikes are not-at-fault accidents. Truck scheduled for next week at the collision center.

Damage is pretty minor. I could have almost "smacked" everything back together but a lot of the plastic tabs that holds stuff together got broken off by the impact. The headlight is toast - the tabs that mount it are all busted so it won't align and it just sort-of sits there. But I think the body shop can save all the plastic bumper and grille and stuff and maybe just add in new tabs or clips. I dunno, I'm not a body guy so I don't know how they do it nowadays.

That sucks for you and the goose. As bad as it sounds its a good thing you didn't try to avoid it, probably could have gotten pretty ugly if you lost traction.

If it was a Canada Goose he'll probably only miss a shift or two

Sheriff hit a low flying Peacock few years ago...they fly low like the turkeys...blew through the windshield and splattered itself across the prisoner partition. Man that was ugly

The bird was still alive so I couldn't. Canada Geese are protected - federal offense to kill them intentionally.

That blows, sorry Mang. :( Hopefully Geico does you right - my asshole still bears stretch marks & scars from them.

My rig got hit by a high-speed shopping cart tonight at the grocery store (scratch and severely dented). Rear quarter panel, right where a high clearance bumper would sit - My rig is obviously parking-lot-adverse. Guess what's next on the list of major upgrades??????????

Funny you say that, my dad just took out a turkey with his Tahoe a couple days ago (he lives in upstate NY). It completely obliterated the side mirror and slammed it into the window, leaving a nice ding in the glass but fortunately not breaking it.

The Canada Goose is a protected species in the US? Seriously? They're practically pests here.

Next time, HONK. They speak the language.

Yeah they are protected. I know its ridiculous they are like cockroaches - everywhere!

"Canada Geese are protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Act of 1918 . This Act makes it illegal to harm or injure a goose and damage or move its eggs and nest, without a Federal permit. Not complying with the Federal Act can result in fines ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 and this also applies to an untrained dog’s actions."

I'm with State Farm, but was hit in another GD parking lot last Thanksgiving Day by some idiot cutting lanes who had Geico. (Er go my comment that my rig is "parking lot adverse".)

I fully documented the scene, took copious notes and even called the local PD, who don't file reports for accidents on private property unless there are injuries here in VA. But both being in law enforcement we got to talking on the side and the responding LEO said "she was 100% at fault hauling ass through the parking lot recklessly and illegally as it clearly appears she was.".

Geico denied State Farms claim that she was 100% at fault and I had to suck-up the loss which is bullshit. IMO, ALL insurance companies are nothing more than crooks and RICO offenders.....

    Things I need to tow.
They're definitely pests here. This is a pic of the athletic field at the community college where I work. (It's less than 100 miles from the Canadian border.) One day last fall/winter a storm came through suddenly with heavy winds and the geese couldn't stay aloft. So, they bailed on the athletic field until the storm passed. There are literally hundreds of them. This is a regular occurrence anyway and they usually spend the night(s) rendering the field unusable. (We have turkeys too, but nowhere near as many as geese.)

Agreed with both of your statements. There's probably a hundred of the blighters sitting in the field right across the street from my house on any day of the week. They are everywhere- and I'm in VA!
