alright so in my quest to find out more information on a CS-144 swap i found that someone mentioned that they did a Lexus es300 alternator swap and upon looking into it, it looks possible. it had the same 12 6 mounts, same plug, internally regulated, and same rotation. only thing that catches my eye is pulley type is a 6 rib serpentine. but i should be able to take the pulley off my old alt and put it on the lexus alt if the lexus pulley doesnt work. and this is only 10 extra amps over stock but i dont need much of an improvement over stock at this time

any thoughts on this, or anyone know someone who did this.

    hahaha

If you have replacement in hand...but of course ;)

The ES is the "driver" while the Tacoma quietly sits still on the weekends, actually the Taco is "Moms wheels" during the week till I tend to my "noise".....

That is why I volunteered PIX.....BUT a certain River Rat is looking for a TW Express runner FT.Myers too Orlando so maybe you make a little $$$ and see a Lexus up close...

just out of curiosity have you seen bamatoys electrical system upgrade?
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/ma...coming-2nd-gen-electrical-system-upgrade.html

the stage 2 kits have upgraded alternators i think he has them for all models of 1st gens but not sure. might want to ask him if you can just get an alternator instead of the whole kit? considering there is no core charge and it is a direct bolt on OEM fit..

Just curious...what's a CS-144 swap and what's the purpose of running the Lexus ES300 Alternator?

Cs144 is a gm style alternator that puts out 140 amps. Double what a stock Tacoma alternator puts out. And the lexus alt is 10 amps higher output than a stock tacoma alt and it looks to be the same style alt so I dont think it would require any modifications to make it work.

Thanks for the info. Would this be for a stereo system, winch or lights? Or if you had all three?

Maybe if you have a few lights or a smaller stereo. And if you have a winch and want to run it at idle youll need a H.O. alt of some sorts.

my Cs144 does fine with dual batterries, 30 lights, huge stereo and winch..and yes..i have used all 3 at the same time and no issues.

the lexus one doesnt seem worth it. 10 amps isn't much of a upgrade..

But its plug and play from what ive read. No new plugs, no rewiring, and not bracket mods. Thats the only reason I would consider it. Next time im in the junkyard ill look for a es300 and pull the alt off of it

I'm sure there is a better Denso Alt out there that is plug n play, I know someone on yotatech that used an older Jaguar Alt that was a Denso and switched pulleys for it to plug n play on his 22re. Had 140amps or something like that over the 70 ish stock one. But 10 amps over stock doesn't seem worth the trouble IMO.

thats the thing, its not trouble... if i see one of the lexus alternators in the junk yard im going to grab it and then experiment with it. if it is 100% plug and play there is no trouble and i have an extra 10 amps to help keep up with my system when i turn it up
