    Running/cardio will help burn off some calories, helping you lose weight. But, if you want to tone up, you have to have resistance training. I always go back to this picture when people start talking about this stuff...

    Sprinters lift weights, marathoners (usually) don't.

    Erin, I wasn't saying don't do cardio but too much cardio will eventually start to eat away your muscle. Genetically speaking, females have a higher body fat percentage than males. However, most females are of the opinion that cardio will lower your body fat and weights will make you huge...this is not the case has been discussed. Building your muscle mass will greatly assist with the ability of your body to burn fat. Interval cardio will kick start your metabolism and you can also metabolic conditioning still work outs to assist. A weight lifting session will however leave you burning fat for days...
