So does anyone have any suggestions for a GPS that will work with a landscape trailer? I was looking for something small that would activate when the 4 way flat plug was plugged into the truck. Not sure if that would work or if they make anything like that. I don't want to have worry about batteries.

There are several choices but most are going to be geared toward an 18 wheeler trailer. I dont have any specifics but know they are out there.

If your trailer has electric brakes, then you are most likely using a seven pin trailer plug. One of the contact in that plug is hot whenever the trailer is plugged into the tow vehicle.

Why are you wanting this feature? Do you just want to keep track of the miles you put on the trailer.

If you need something like that, I use an app called "mytracks" it will record your route and you can email the route to anyone.

I only have a 4 way flat so no trailer brakes. I wanted it incase it would get stolen. My thought was when the wire harness was plugged in it could power the GPS. That way I would have an idea of where it was. If it was small enough I could hide it and hopefully the thief wouldn't know. Not to worried about it getting stolen but better safe than sorry.

There is no constant or ignition power on a 4 pin flat plug, so it would have to run off the tail light circuit, meaning you might only be able to track it when its being used at night. Unless you were to add a diode and a 12v battery that would charge off the tail light power when the tail lights are on, then power your GPS tracker off that battery. Honestly, it sounds to me like much more of a hassle than its worth for a landscape trailer.

I didn't think they had anything but thought I would ask. As for only tracking it at night, I would think it would work any time but I have no idea

    thanks

Ok let me get this straight. You have a GPS in the trailer it is going you let you know just where the trailer has been but with out some type of tracking how are you going to know where it's hiding?

Just insure it and use a coupler lock. And if you are going to leave it for a while and are worried about it, put it on a jackstand and take a wheel off.
