Nothing major planned, this is my daily driver. - replaced stock tires with Cooper AT3s - added Husky WeatherBeater floor mats - installed Access Original bed cover - installed Gentex 453 mirror and the included external temp sensor, also has Homelink and auto-dim - installed ImMrYo mirror bracket - hose clamp mod and washer mod to secure tailgate, with a GateKeeper lock installed over the hose clamp - replaced stock reverse lights with Philips Halogen 30w from Home Depot GY6.35 base
Hii, I'm the OP and about the pictures. They are on Photobucket and a free acccount there (like mine) is limited to 10Gb of bandwidth per month. My limit was reached for this month, so the pics temporarily disappeared.

If I had known about this limit, I would have either hosted the pics on the TW site (in the Gallery section) or linked smaller versions of the pictures in the Photobucket album.

So, I just temporarily upgraded to a paid account on Photobucket, and also edited my posts to link smaller pictures (1024 x 768) vs. the prior HUGE pictures (4000 x 3000), which drops the required bandwidth to 15x less.

Is there a way to add a PDF/Word Document to this post? I have it saved with the pictures in PDF form.

No sweat. Just trying to help others out. Mine came in the mail today. I installed it & did the map/dome light mod while I had the roof console out. Together it took about 2 hours. Would have gone quicker if I could have felt my hands. Stupid 15deg weather!!!

I think it took longer to get my garage door programmed than it did to install everything. Stupid craftsman rolling code opener!!!

What about the compass ? And can you explain how to switch between the two (temp & compass) ?

    Thx

They are both displayed in the same screen simultaneously. Not sure on the accuracy of the compass yet. Mine needed calibrated, but it seems pretty accurate.

Great write up - looks straight forward, thanks!

The 2014 Sport OEM mirror is listed as Auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink®10 and compass not including the outside temperature (another feature I miss from my ol' blue 2005). They told me the temperature comes through the weather app on the display- which seems to be a general temperature for the area, not specifically where the truck is.

w/o garage I didn't need Homelink, but got the Gentex 177 from Bob with temp and compass. Thanks for the excellent detailed, complete write up w/ pics!

Install is really straightforward, thanks for the detailed post.

The only thing I would add is some detail on fishing the wires through the firewall grommet which took me the most time in the whole install. The hole on the side of the grommet in the first picture is where you push the hanger through. I could not get the loop of the hanger to pierce through the rubber dimple either. Inside the engine compartment you will see the tip of the coat hanger inside the rubber protruding beside the factory wire harness. I also had to use a knife to make a small slit in the end to expose the end of the loop allowing me to pass the wires through.

EDIT- see post #68 later in the thread on Page 4- he had an alternative method for feeding the wires. There are also some alternative places shown to mount the sensor up behind the open grill without drilling.

Tip of the coat hanger loop protruding just through the dimple so you can run the sensor wires through it:

You are welcome, and yes, that grommet is thick and hard to push the wires through. It also took me a long time, since I worked carefully to avoid damaging any of those factory wires which are in that area.

    Thanks for your picture.

Mine was $299 to my door. Love it.

Truck was at the dealer for some accessories they owed me from the sale, Parts Manager asked "Where'd you get THAT?- WOW!"

Thank you very much for this write up. It helped me immensely with my install. The only difference I had was since I have an automatic my transmission cooler is in the way of mounting it like yours. I mounted it on the opposite side and it works perfectly.

What I want to know is why on earth didn't they mount the mirror higher to begin with at the factory?

Great job on the install, and great write up.

New guy here but I finished my install after close review of pics and instructions found within. One thing I did find was a small rubber plug above and to the left of the firewall wiring harness. This plug was fairly easy to pull out from the firewall engine side thereby allowing me to fish the wire through that access and avoid fishing wires through the wiring harness. I used a small piece of plastic tubing and when I had entry into the cabin area with the tubing, I then pushed the wires through the tubing, and pulled the tubing off the wires inside the cab. Pretty quick way to get the most difficult part of the install completed. (2014 TRD 4 door)

Can someone take a picture of the factory plug so I can see where all the wires go? My red wire came out of the plug today when I was trying to install the ImMrYo bracket to raise my mirror (which does not appear to fit the Gemtex mirrors). :(

No one? There are three wires: red, black and (I think) white. I can't figure where the red wire goes, and don't want to short out the mirror.
