So the gf is looking for a truck and found this. http://chambersburg.craigslist.org/cto/4410109513.html

She is going to look at it later this afternoon.

I don't know much about the 2nd Gen so is there anything to look out for? I know to look for rust. Do the second gens last as long as the 1st gens? Anything to check with that high of mileage?

I can't believe he only wants 12k for it. I've seen dealers ask that much of late 90s trucks with similar mileage.

At 163k I would take it in for a full inspection. Consumables like ball joints, etc could all be worn out. I have seen a lot of vehicles that got sold at their 100k service point and not necessarily been serviced since minus oil. Those parts can add up fast.

I looked at used 2nd gens for a long time before I purchased mine. I found a pattern that seemed to be true; that is the trucks depreciate about $1000 for every 10K miles. This one seems no different. It has 163K miles which would be 16K plus the asking of 12K so total is 28K which is close to what that truck was bought new.

If its a clean truck with maintenance records I think it is a decent deal. Dealers ask crazy prices for used Tacomas and they hold their value very well.

It it's a legit ad I would snatch it up barring some kind of visual catastrophe.

Well just test drove it. Thing is in immaculate condition! I almost want to sell my 1st gen and buy it lol.

It has the original clutch which kinda worries me that might be nearing the end of its life. Didn't slip or anything just worried about the high mileage on it. Very little surface rust nothing serious.

He did mention he had a small front end collision. 1500$ in damage. Said the front bumper and headlights were replaced.

I hope she gets approved for a loan! lol

That seems about right... I payed $12,750 for my 2006 Access Cab with 150,000 miles (no problems at all, still has original clutch). It is a TRD Off-road though. Looks gorgeous though man, I wish mine was red!

Real nice looking truck! I would seriously consider snatching one up for the asking price. Seems reasonable.

Does that mean it has hidden frame damage and he's covering it up?
Every now and then you get that once-in-a-lifetime deal, and every now and then you buy the farm. Have it looked at by a shop of YOUR CHOICE on your dime, all the time.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
That's a great deal. It's awesome when things really are too good to be true. That's the one.

I don't think he is covering anything up. Seemed very honest. He needs a double cab for a baby seat in the back.

Where do you guys live that you found those kind of deals? It's hard enough to find a 1st gen around here for that. Nothing really comes up on cars.com with anything to compare with. It's all 2wd and pre runners.

Pretty sure she is going to buy it if her loan goes through. Thanks for your input guys!

I just bought my 2006 DC TRD for 13,200. 155k miles. I think you should snatch it up.
